Dear newsletter readers!

This issue of www.AVP-Newsletter.com presents you with latest news from the data- and video projection / presentation.

1)      ISE 2010: More than 100 new exhibitors

When ISE 2010 opens its doors in Amsterdam from 2-4 February, the show will host over 500 exhibitors, more than 100 of whom will be exhibiting for the first time. Mike Blackman, Managing Director, Integrated Systems Events, believes that the number of new companies entering the market for professional AV and systems integration is an indicator of the industry’s long-term strength and growth potential. “The AV industry has shown itself to be both creative and very hard-working,” says Blackman. “This, combined with the high level of innovation that we continue to see from manufacturers, has enabled many companies to withstand the effects of recession much better than some people predicted. “As a genuinely European show with a visitor base that spans more than 50 countries, ISE will also benefit from the fact that many of the major economies are showing signs of growth again, and I think we will see confidence on the show floor. “Our pre-registration numbers are ahead of expectations, and I am particularly pleased that we will be hosting over 100 new exhibitors this year - a real testament to the ingenuity and resilience of the professional AV and electronic systems industry.”

As in 2009, ISE will be immediately preceded by the DOOH Business Conference. This will again present the AV and systems integration communities with a chance to meet with leading stakeholders from the fields of advertising, creative content, and network management. For 2010, DOOH Conference delegates will get an exclusive preview of ISE’s Digital Signage Hall as part of a VIP networking event on the evening of Monday 1 February.

Barco announced the launch of the RLM-W6. The RLM-W6 is a three-chip DLP projector with a WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution. With an extremely low noise level of 32dB, a power consumption 33% lower than comparable systems and a 6,000 lumens light output, it is a green, ergonomic and cost-conscious choice for boardrooms, lobbies and auditoriums. Barco's RLM-W6 premieres the superior color saturation and image stability of three-chip DLP technology in applications hitherto mostly reserved for single-chip DLP systems. The RLM-W6's WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution gives it the versatility to display a wide array of sources. ISE: booth 11j28

3)      projectiondesign: WQXGA resolution projector at ISE

Pride of place on the projectiondesign booth will be the new F35 wqxga, the first projector to feature Texas Instruments’ WQXGA DLP chip. This offers a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, that’s 78% more pixels than WUXGA. The result is a display of incredibly high pixel density that requires fewer projectors to produce ultra-realistic images. Also at a European tradeshow for the first time is the MIPS WB2560 – projectiondesign’s first multi-image processor. Capable of providing geometry correction on a per-pixel basis for perfect image performance, the MIPS WB2560 is infinitely scalable, allowing any number of channels to be combined to a single image, without limitations. The MIPS processing engine is totally transparent to the image generator, and operates at near zero latency making it ideal for applications from simple video walls to high performance simulation applications up accommodating geometry correction up to WQXGA resolution on each channel.

5)      Da-Lite: More frame options to the JKP Affinity Screen

Da-Lite is now offering the award winning JKP Affinity Screen series with additional fixed frame choices that include both the Da-Snap and Imager designer frames. Da-Snap and Imager frames are available in a variety of formats to fit home theater or post production applications. “Joe Kane and Da-Lite’s partnership has produced a high definition projection screen that has received many awards and critical acclaim in both the commercial and home theater markets,” stated Wendy Long, Da-Lite’s Vice President of Marketing. “To meet the increased demand for the JKP Affinity Screens, we have added some of our most popular fixed frames to the line. Both frames offer easy to install hidden ‘snap-on’ installation with a standard black Pro-Trim frame that provides a masking border.” JKP models are standard with Pro-Trim, a fabric frame covering that aesthetically enhances the appearance of an installation and absorbs light that surrounds the viewing area of the screen. Installers can select the JKP Affinity Screen fabric of choice and combine it with a Da-Snap or Imager fixed frame in a variety of formats that include HDTV and Cinemascope sizes for the optimal home theater viewing experience. 6)      Mitsubishi Electric: Interactive display wall at ISE 2010

Mitsubishi Electric will demonstrate a revolutionary new multi-touch (MT) interface for its Seventy Series DLP cubes at ISE 2010. The new interface transforms a standard multi-window display wall into a stunning interactive workspace that can be used by several users simultaneously. The multi-touch technology, developed jointly in Sweden by Mitsubishi Electric and i3 Sense, uses laser sensors instead of the more usual infra-red (IR) detectors or capacitive touch overlays. As well as offering greater accuracy and responsiveness, the new system is much less susceptible to interference from sources of IR radiation such as sunlight. The technology makes it possible to create reliable multi-touch, multi-user interfaces in normally-lit environments such as control rooms, shop windows or other public areas. 16)  BrightSign: Digital Signage Networks Strike It Lucky

Up-market bowling venues Lucky Strike Lanes have added BrightSign media players to deliver high quality video artwork complementing their trademark cocktails, private lanes and sophisticated menu. BrightSign Network Management enables art displays and promotional messages to be coordinated across North America. Lucky Strike wanted to display static and video artwork in a new way; and update it regularly to keep the venue fresh and appealing. The goal was for each artist’s work to be shown in the highest quality resolution for 8-12minutes per day, seven days a week in Lucky Strike locations. Effective management of the visual projection and playback, its timing and scheduling, was also a key requirement. Digital signage integrator ITMIS was enlisted to design and implement Lucky Strike’s vision. The company selected BrightSign media players to deliver content in four prominent Lucky Strike locations: Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA, Bellevue, WA and Hoboken, NJ. There are four BrightSign units in each of the four locations and each location supports two 20 x 12-foot HD projection screens delivering artwork directly to the bowling lanes, a 20 x 12-foot 3D HD projection screen delivering the highest-quality video art to a luxury private bowling room and a fourth 50-inch plasma display playing promotional infotainment in the entrance lobby. These digital signs are designated as ART1, ART2, LUXE and ICON, respectively. In addition, the four BrightSign units are connected to an AMX distribution system which allows Lucky Strike to selectively distribute the artwork to all the televisions in the lounge/bar areas via strategically located touch panels. 18)  SCREEN NT: Sunlight LCD in Singapore

Heralding a new shift in the outdoor Information, Communication and Media business, SCREEN NT again demonstrated its technology in front of local and overseas guests during the inauguration of the new sports campus of the Swiss International School in Singapore. The 2 meter high display, with a 52 inch LCD SUNLIGHT SCREEN and built-in Windows PC was installed directly outside the school in early November and provides live information on school activities, sports results and schedules. It has already weathered the sun, rain and storms over the past weeks without problems. The school’s Operations Director, Bart Ferwerda, was not just worried about the extreme Singapore weather conditions: “I am especially pleased that the SCREEN guys also build such a solid system, not that we have violent kids – but the display does have to endure a few strong kicks from straying soccer balls”. The principal, Mr. Huerlimann added: “I am so impressed with the performance of the system. It really opens a whole new world of communication to the staff, parents, visitors and most importantly, the children in our school”. SCREEN-NT’s innovative displays are ideal for the Far East, being specifically designed for use where other displays fail – in direct sunlight conditions. They are built to withstand damaging IR/UV radiation, extreme temperatures and vandalism, on a longterm 24/7 basis. By cleverly harnessing the power of the sun, the displays also boast very low energy consumption figures, compared to other outdoor LCD solutions. Having engineered and perfected the systems over the past 3 years, SCREEN-NT, the German pioneer for sunlight readable LCD outdoor solutions, has now entered the Asian market and co-founded a joint venture company in Singapore: SCREEN-NT (Asia) Pte Ltd. The Swiss International School is therefore just the first of various installations planned for the area. ISE: booth 12G82
