1)     Epson: The new Epson EMP-7900NL

The Epson EMP-7900NL is an XGA projector with a brightness of up to 4000 ANSI lumens and a 700:1 contrast. It has comprehensive network functionality and helps to save time. The Epson EMP-7900NL is impressive in large-room presentations because of its excellent picture quality and brightness. It provides low-noise, disturbance-free 33dB operation. The projector is ideal for large conference halls but can also be transported easily thanks to its low weight (5.6 kilos). The lenses are not included. There are three lenses to choose from.

2)     Hot Couple from HP

HP has extended its digital projector range for companies and the education and home-user field with two new universal projectors. Each weighing just 2.8 kilos and with a compact design the HP VP6210 and HP VP6220 are really easy to transport. They can also be simply fitted to the ceiling or on a stand. Both projectors provide excellent picture quality with a sharp focus which is no wonder with a 2000:1 contrast and a 200 Watt high-performance bulb. With 1600 ANSI lumens (VP6210) and 2000 ANSI lumens (VP6220) respectively this hot couple really puts presentations and films in the right perspective! That makes both projectors ideal for daylight use in conference or school rooms with a projection distance of 1 to 8 metres. The energy saving eco-mode extends the bulb life from 2000 to 4000 hours.

3)     BenQ: A Wave of New Projectors

Ben Q presented a total of eleven projectors in Berlin. The new product range provides projectors in all classes whether 1.9 kilo lightweights or very bright 3000 ANSI lumen projectors. The eleven projectors are based on the latest DLP technology from Texas Instruments and offer features like eight pre-settings, a T-flow cooling system or DVI inputs. Swimming in this wave of new projectors are models like these: PB2140/PB2240 – mobile series, weighing just 1.9 kilos and with a 2000 ANSI lumen brightness. PB6110/PB6210 – value series, successor to the PB6100 with 2000:1 contrast. Or the performance series PB7110/PB7210/PB7230, three products with high brightness and a 5 segment colour wheel. Along with them comes the installation series PB8140/PB8240/PB8250. These are perfect for users who often need to give presentations in large spaces. It includes the PB8250 which with its 3000 ANSI lumens is the brightest device in the BenQ product portfolio. And last but not least the PE5120 – home series. This is the projector for newcomers to home-cinema. It uses a 16:9 optimized WVGA DLP chip, has a 2000:1 contrast ratio and a component input connection along with a DVI interface.

4)     With Toshiba F1+ to New Shores

The F1+ from Toshiba Projection & Display Technology (PDT) is the latest high-end projector for business. The F1+ has been designed by the Norwegian Toshiba cooperation partner Projection Design and is intended especially for round-the-clock use. The projector is based on DLP technology from Texas Instruments and has a very high 2500:1 contrast ratio. Its 2500 ANSI lumen brightness make perfect picture reproduction possible even in poor lighting conditions. Another point of note is the high resolution SXGA+ which, compared with XGA resolutions, almost doubles the number of pixels. In other words the F1+ is a high performance projector which really comes into its own in high quality presentations such as are necessary in the field of medicine or for CAD/CAM design. Thanks to its Sealed Optical Architecture the projector can also be used in dusty environments without any problems and its low weight of only 3.4 kilos means it is easy to transport. Of course the F1+ also has a number of inputs and outputs, for example DVI-D, RGB, USB, RS232 and a network port.

5)     Strong Performance: Hitachi CP-X445

The Hitachi Digital Media Group has presented the LCD projector CP-X445 – the first business projector with four integrated loudspeakers. In presentations picture and sound come over powerfully – you no longer need an external sound system. Its 3,200 ANSI lumens, various inputs and simple operation mean the CP-X445 is particularly suited to universities and schools but also for use in medium-sized conference rooms. The CP-X445 can be controlled over a network interface. A high 1.3 zoom factor along with vertical and horizontal trapezium correction give the device the flexibility to be used in all kinds of lecture room. And at 4 kilos it is not exactly heavy. With 39 dB the XGA Business Projector is also pleasantly quiet. It has two RGB inputs along with an additional DVI and composite input. The CP-X445 can be controlled by mouse over the USB or RS232 interface – if ceiling mounted.

6)     EIKI’s New EIP-3500

The new EIKI projector EIP-3500 is an innovative DLP projector with 3500 ANSI lumens. It is ideal for use in the office, for mobile presentations and permanent installation. Its natural colour function avoids colour distortion, especially red and yellow tones. The EIP-3500 has a hi-contrast mode of 2000:1 and a hi-brightness mode of 1000:1. That makes the projector flexible in various environments and adjustable to user requirements. The auto focus function in combination with the motor-zoom provides automatic optimal focus for the picture. As soon as the projector warms up it projects a test picture and automatically focuses with it. The EIP-3500 also automatically carries out a vertical digital keystone correction. Nothing has to be manually adjusted. Alongside an RS232 interface the projector also has its own internal web browser – this makes control and remote maintenance possible from any PC with a regular web browser. The colour wheel motor has been constructed using air flow rather than bearings and this reduces the noise levels to just 32 dB in the ECO mode.

It provides optimal presentations even when it is not possible to set up the equipment directly in front of the screen and it communicates with the PC or laptop even when a cable connection is not possible. The innovative feature, Sony air shot technology, simply integrates the projector into the conventional wireless LAN environment using the air shot module which can be inserted into the device. 8)     SHARP: Private Cinema with the XV-Z2000

Who has not at some point dreamt of sitting quite alone in the cinema watching your favourite film in full size and with the full sound – without having to listen to, “don’t we know each other?” or “shall I tell you who did it?”. Well, Sharp will now be letting the dream come true with their XV-Z2000 HD2+ DLP video-data projector. The Videostar, specially developed for the home cinema, with its 1200 ANSI lumens ensures a picture incredibly rich in contrast (2500:1) and WXGA resolution (1.280 x 720 pixels) for powerful private visual performances.

9)     Luxion: New Home Cinema Video Projector from NEC

With the HT410 (W-VGA) and HT510 (W-PAL) NEC has newly developed two home-cinema models. Both DLP data projectors provide real 16:9 home-cinema enjoyment at beginners’ prices, are quiet as a whisper with 26 dB (eco), are impressive with their 1,200:1 contrast and a bulb life of around 3,000 hours (eco). What is sensational in this price class is the lens-shift function which makes the positioning in the room or on the ceiling even more flexible without having to activate quality reducing keystone correction. Of course the HT410 and HT510 are fully compatible with HDTV and PAL sources, so there are no limitations on the source devices (VCR, DVD, PC, TV). Nor has any expense been spared on the equipment (5-segment colour wheel) or accessories (home cinema remote control, smoke and dust protection housing, etc).

10) Mitsubishi: New Portables

With their two new projectors Mitsubishi Electric is responding to the increasing demands for portable projectors which are not only compact, light and powerful but also fully equipped. The XD60U and the SE2U fulfil all these demands. The XD60U is a DLP projector with a brightness of 1800 ANSI lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. It accepts analogue, digital and even HDTV signals, is smaller than an A4 sheet and weighs only 1.6 kilos. It fits easily in your hand luggage. The projector provides an XGA resolution (1024 x 768 dpi) and even with dark pictures ensures crystal clear images. The SE2U – successor to the SE1U – has been optically and technically upgraded; it is now fitted with DLP technology. This light 2.9 kilo portable also has an improved 1500 ANSI lumen brightness and a better contrast ratio of 2000:1. 14) InFocus and TCL = SMT

Behind the result of this equation is the new company South Mountain Technologies (SMT). It has been founded by the InFocus Corporation, specialists for digital projection technology and services, and the TCL Corporation (thanks to its joint venture with Thomson the largest TV manufacturer worldwide) with the aim of making a strategic partnership. The new firm belongs equally to both partners. It manufactures front and back projection engines and projectors. The headquarters of this joint venture, which consists of the parent company and three 100 percent subsidiaries, is in the Chinese special economic zone Shenzhen. Two further research and development centres have been set up in Norway and the USA. InFocus and TCL are both investing ten million US dollars in the joint venture. However the whole transaction still has to be approved by the Chinese government. Production will only start after that. Teams from InFocus from Norwegian and the USA along with TCL from China will develop the new SMT products. SMT can produce cost-efficient and at the same time qualitatively high-level devices for worldwide OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers at each production location.
