Dear newsletter readers!

This issue of www.AVP-Newsletter.com presents you with latest news from the data- and video projection / presentation.

1)      ISE 2009: Time running out for exhibitors

With some weeks remaining before Integrated Systems Europe 2009 (ISE) opens its doors, the show organisers are predicting another sellout of exhibition space – despite the event occupying some 30% more net space than in 2008. Around 90% of the available space has already been reserved, leaving exhibitors who have not yet signed up facing something of a race against the clock. “The continued growth of ISE is a tribute not just to the strength of our event, but to the robustness of the professional AV and electronic system industrie in Europe,” comments Mike Blackman, Managing Director, Integrated Systems Events.

ISE 2009 will take place at the Amsterdam RAI, 3-5 February 2009.

This makes a wide-format device in NEC’s standard desktop series of projectors now available for users. The NEC NP500W is comprehensively equipped and comes with many practical features – for example, it can be administered directly over a network via its RJ45 interface, or controlled using the Virtual Remote function directly from a PC via the VGA cable. User-friendly operation is assured by various automatic functions such as Keystone Correction, Autostart or Quick Power Off. In addition, EcoMode operation of the device lowers operating costs and enables a long lamp lifetime. Whether it’s used for portable applications, as a desktop projector or installed in a fixed location on the ceiling, the 3,000 ANSI lumens brightness of the NEC NP500 means it is ideal for deployment in small to medium-sized businesses. 4)      Toshiba: The first speaking projector

Wouldn't it be practical if the projector could tell you itself what it needs? And if a friendly voice saved the day by pointing out that the data cable needs to be connected? What sounds like a dream is now reality, thanks to two new projector models by Toshiba. This scenario is one of 27 stored in the x200 (XGA resolution) and the wx200 (WXGA resolution) with Voice Guidance feature to support users in day-to-day use. Instead of frantically flicking through manuals or phoning colleagues, now even the most non-technical or occasional users can relax in the knowledge that their presentation is in safe hands. To eliminate language problems, the Voice Guidance feature is available in a total of 25 languages. Toshiba's two new additions to the portable class x200 and wx200 are the first projectors to feature this technical innovation. Currently the quietest XGA model, delivering only 28dB in Eco mode, Toshiba’s x200 weighs in at under two kilograms and has brightness of 3,000 ANSI lumens. The LCD projector offers outstanding technical features such as fully automatic keystone correction and instant shutdown, in addition to supplying vibrant colour reproduction and Windows Vista network functionality. Thanks to Vista, network connection via RJ45 LAN or Wireless LAN is available at the press of a button without the need to install additional software. A further plus is the USB interface. Toshiba's answer to the growing WXGA projector market (1,280 x 800), the wx200 addresses a range of applications even more versatile than that of the x200. The wx200 offers all the features of the x200, plus 16:10 native aspect ratio. ISE: 1J125

5)      dnp: Projection screens in live action at ISE

The ISE show will mark the European launch of dnp’s new Ceiling Cassette for the dnp Supernova Flex Screen that makes the retractable screen more discrete than ever. Apart from the new ceiling mounted version of the dnp Supernova Flex, dnp will present the Supernova Infinity, which offers unlimited screen size possibilities. Visitors can also experience why many AV experts consider the dnp Sigma Screen to be the ultimate optical rear projection screen. A revolutionary high-contrast filter allows the projected image of dnp’s Supernova Screens to be reflected from the screen head-on. It absorbs light efficiently from other sources so the screen remains virtually unaffected by ambient light. The retractable Supernova Flex combines the revolutionary Supernova Screen technology with an innovative, aesthetic, space-saving design to create a high-quality front projection screen. The dnp Sigma Screen is an optical high-contrast rear projection screen, which is optimized for the bright environment with high levels of natural ambient. The combination of extremely high black levels and a matt non-glare surface dramatically enhances the perceived image contrast and combats reflections from windows and artificial lighting. 18)  AV Stumpfl: Wings Platinum 3.70 – new formats and Quicktime video

Quicktime videos can now be played directly in Wings Platinum projects. In the past, high-quality footage that was only available in MOV format had to be converted specifically into some other format. Today, some of the modern digital cameras also create videos in MOV format, which can now be played directly in Wings Platinum. The new version also features a functional extension for the Starter license: one text track was added in order to display a title, the credits or any other information. This is a wish come true for the Wings Platinum users. Texts can now be added or modified in next to no time without having to resort to Photoshop graphics. Users of timecode will take a keen interest in the fact that the new Wings Platinum version allows jumping to a defined timecode from where playback can be started. The timecode function has been supplemented by two new triggers "Read external timecode" and "Continue internal timecode". 21)  ict: Mondial de l’Automobile Paris 2008

The Auto-Salon Paris from 4th to 19th October 2008, presented a veritable showcase on the river Seine. A precisely movable LED wall at the BMW press conferences served as a central medium for the presentation of model innovations whilst simultaneously emphasizing the dynamics of the BMW brand. The company ict Innovative Communication Technologies AG, Kohlberg, planned and implemented this sophisticated media-mechanical system. Embedded in a media scenario with offset LED steles on the left and right, the 15qm LED screen formed a type of “Premiere Gateway” for the new BMW models. In harmony with the total scenario, the movable LED screen could be vertically moved exact to the millimetre, just like raising a gate, via an intelligent control. The funnel like placement of the high resolution media elements, the contrast rich LED modules (Barco ILite 6 BK) and the frame synchronous Full-HD media feed created a room spanning image impression which conveyed a dynamic tensioned atmosphere. The entire media-mechanics, including drive and control technologies, steel structure and static for the four tonne „Gate“, as well as the construction for the eight LED steles, everything was planned and built by ict. As Full-Service Provider, ict implemented sophisticated panelling for the mechanical components in accordance with the given BMW design guidelines. A DVC hard disc recorder and several Barco DX-700 processors were used for the video content feed. The synchronous control of the complete LED movie concept and electro-mechanics was achieved via an ict media control; the ict ControlMachine CM 3. ISE: 5O106

22)  SCREEN NT: Innovative Digital Signage System at the AUDI Forum

In their completely refitted AUDI Forum in Ingolstadt, the ever-innovative German corporation has installed a Digital Signage system, which sets new standards in multimedia infotainment. The intention is to bring the fascinating world of AUDI in an emotional, informative and entertaining manor to the thousands of visitors, whether they are picking up their new car, or just enjoying a family day out. AUDI was quick to realise that the Digital Signage system in the company’s prestigious Forum could and should provide far more than the car pick-up information expected from it. The ensuing concept and project was therefore devised to combine the necessary pick-up information with entertaining multimedia elements, such as AUDI’s own TV channel, marketing videos and live news. AUDI chose SCREEN NT. The company based in Alzenau, near Frankfurt was the company, which could meet all of AUDI’s criteria for the infotainment solution. The choice was based not only on the vast experience the North-Bavarian professionals brought with them in Digital Signage installations, but also because of SCREEN’s unique technology in SUNLIGHT LC displays. The company’s 42” SUNLIGHT LCDs were the ideal solution to the buildings sunlight “problem”. ISE: 12F89

23)  WolfVision: The new Building with a lot of highlights

After only 10 months of construction WolfVision´s new headquarters was completed at the end of July 2008. It took two weeks to move from the former office in the nearby town Götzis into the new building. Operations finally started on August 18, 2008. The WolfVision group employs 65 people in Klaus and 20 further employees, working in international subsidiaries. With 3.600qm the new headquarters offers enough space for approx. 100 employees. The actual decision to build a new building rather than renting and adapting some more rooms in the previous location was made by the family Wolf in summer of 2006. The challenge was to find an appropriate property close to the former location, in order not to loose any qualified employees due to cumbersome commuting. George, Martin and Josef Wolf soon found the perfect building site in the nearby town Klaus. When looking for the perfect building concept WolfVision started an architectural competition. A great method strangely enough still not too often used in the private industry. Five well known architects participated in the 2-step competition. On March 13, 2007 architects Gerhard Hörburger and their partners ReitbruggerGAU from Bregenz won the competition with a great building concept which convinced everybody in the jury. In order to assure that the WolfVision management can concentrate on its day to day business and for keeping the construction time as short as possible it was decided to assign a general contractor. The tendering procedure and the construction inspection on site were handed over to another architectural office (DI Thurnher ZT-GmbH from Feldkirch). At the end of September Schertler-Alge GbmH, Lauterach won the tender and was assigned as general contractor. Start of construction was on October 12, 2007. After only 10 months of construction WolfVision´s new headquarters was completed in July 2008. The first two weeks of August were used for the move of the company and on August 18, 2008 operations finally started in the new headquarter. ISE: 1J13
