3)      Barco bridges the pixel gap with the ten megapixel LX-5 projector

Barco proudly announces the launch of its LX-5 projector, with a native resolution of 10 million pixels. Featuring a high dynamic contrast range of 10,000:1, the LCoS-based LX-5 is poised to be the ultimate choice for image accuracy and color quality. Barco’s LX-5 pushes new, revolutionary liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology to its limits by maximizing its capabilities to generate images with an extreme pixel density. With its resolution of ten megapixel, and its incredible 10,000:1 contrast ratio, the LX-5 radically enhances human perception of visual data. The LX-5 offers its users the chance to display the most detailed images and data for pixel-perfect analysis and discussion. This is important for presentation environments that require the display of finished product designs, aerial views, detailed data sheets or ultra-high definition graphical content. It displays up to four 1080p HD sources simultaneously in their native resolution, which makes for an enhanced, true comparison of detailed fields of data and images. Thanks to its LCoS optimizations, Barco’s LX-5 projects true, realistic black levels. Its bright light output of 4,500 lumens and adaptable color temperature further result in a great variety of lighting environments in which the LX-5 can be deployed. This renders it the perfect, cost-effective single-projector choice to power medium-sized presentation and collaboration venues, where previously, complex multi-channel setups were required. 11)  Hantarex: Professional modules with special optic fiber tiles

At ISE 2008, Hantarex Electronic Systems presents significant new technology: the 34” “Optic Fibre Seam Less” module for Video Wall applications made with extraordinary special optic fiber tiles that reproduce the images. This new product is based on the innovative and revolutionary Itrans® technology that allows to create digital video walls of any shape and size. These modules have virtually no gap between them and no image distortion from reflection on the screen from various light sources like direct sunlight or bright signage etc. The 34” module is ideal for any decor and environment that needs a large screen monitor without gaps that interrupt the image like for Digital Signage. Hantarex’s new professional module can be configured and installed in video walls as big as you like because the modules fit together perfectly both vertically and horizontally. Thanks to the complete lack of reflections on Hantarex monitors, the 34” OF SeamLess is ideal for video wall applications in very bright locations, which present numerous problems from reflections and heat. Maintenance of each module is very simple and inexpensive; the only part that can fail and therefore be replaced is a simple tubular neon lamp that is the light source of the device, which is simply made of optic fiber tiles, an LCD screen that generates the image and a neon lamp. This lamp can be replaced easily by opening the hatch in the back of the module. The optic fiber LCD 34” SeamLess has a 4/3 format for the module and panorama if it is multi-screen, resolution of 408x304 pixels, brightness of 2,300 cd/qm and contrast of 180:1. ISE: L94

12)  Mitsubishi Electric: An immersive display project in Japan

Mitsubishi Electric has unveiled a remarkable new immersive display project in Japan. Using 34 of its XGA 67” DLP cubes, the 2 meter tall, 7.5 meter diameter Display wall creates a 340-degree panoramic experience that almost completely encircles the viewer with nearly 27 million pixel of seamless display screen. The system was custom-built at the company’s Kyoto factory on behalf of an undisclosed customer, who is expected to take delivery early next year. The panoramic display consists of 17, 2x1 columns of Mitsubishi’s DLP-based projection cubes, with a 20-degree gap left for access. Specially developed multiple source image processing combines with the Mitsubishi system’s dynamic brightness and colour balancing circuitry to produce the effect of a completely seamless 340-degree immersive display. At the preview in Kyoto, the company was unable to go into details about the intended use of this particular display system. However Mitsubishi electric does see great potential for the use of similar immersive panoramic display technologies in museums and in commercial applications such as traffic simulations and data visualization. 13)  eyevis: New eyevis board decodes streaming IP

If there's a conundrum that is probably exercising many users, it's the huge number of video sources that need to be managed, the bewildering array of output display devices – and how to establish an appropriate connection between sources and displays. They're probably making their way to the eyevis stand at ISE, where the company is demonstrating its new IP Streaming Decoder Board for its netpix NPX3x00 controller series. The IP Streaming Decoder Board offers hardware decoding of universal streaming video signals in real-time with a very low latency. Each Streaming Decoder card can decode up to 16 CIF streams or up to 8 D1 streams. Through a new hardware decoding architecture, each channel can simultaneously decode different codec formats. This flexibility allows large visualisation systems, says the company, supporting display grids of up to 64 outputs and a virtually unlimited number of inputs. eyevis says that the key features of the new board also include the ability to select different codecs for each channel; simultaneous display of up to 128 streams in real time; low decoding latency; and scaleability. The netpix NPX3x00 controller is a graphics controller for large screen systems. With this controller, it is possible to connect and control a matrix of different displays (consisting of rear projection cubes, LCD monitors, plasma monitors or projectors). A number of different sources (RGB, DVI, Video, LAN) can be connected to this controller and displayed on a large screen system. The new IP Streaming Decoder Board now makes it possible to connect IP video sources directly to the controller. ISE: E64

14)  Comm-Tec: serial control cable converted in 2 minutes

Serial cables often need to be converted at the installation site in order to connect devices with the controller. Usually, the 9-pin SubD plug is being soldered. But that procedure is time-consuming – it is much easier with the soldering-free BTX plugs. The wire is mounted to the plug with no other tool than a screwdriver being needed. The housing also offers a reliable strain relief. Hence, extensive installation costs can be saved. ISE: B56

17)  IOGEAR Clarifies Home Theater System Inefficiencies

According to a recent email survey, 30% of the 1,000 respondents only have one HDMI input, while nearly 60% want to simultaneously connect up to four audio / visual products to their TVs. This presents consumers with a home-theater conundrum, forcing them to either disconnect a device every time they want to access a new one, or not take advantage of the robust HDMI features incorporated in their digital entertainment products. Having multiple interfaces on HDTVs is increasingly vital as more than 600 makers of consumer electronics and PC products worldwide have adopted HDMI1, with products including set-top boxes, DVD players and gaming consoles. "Home entertainment devices continue to come to market with HDMI capabilities, and as our survey illustrates, end users are finding it difficult to support the number of products in their living rooms," said Miranda Su, vice president of sales and marketing at IOGEAR. "It is important for consumers to experience the high-quality audio and video that HDMI provides, as it enables them to have the richest home-theater system possible." IOGEAR entered the AV market in 2007 with its HDMI family of products and initially launched the industry's first automatic HDMI switch, helping home entertainment enthusiasts integrate all HDMI-enabled devices into their media centers. Listening to customers' feedback and new product ideas, the company strives to meet a growing demand by continuously introducing solutions that address end users' pain points. As a result, IOGEAR expanded the HDMI family to include HDMI to DVI Dual Link Adapters and two-, three- and five-metered HDMI cables.

Xantech Corporation has introduced a new on-line forum which will provide users the opportunity to discuss Xantech products with other consumers as well as with Xantech employees. Accessible through the Xantech website at www.xantech.com/forum, this new forum format allows the Xantech user community to share experiences and ask questions about existing and upcoming products. Users will have several options within the forum such as being able to attach pictures and zipped projects in posts and having the opportunity to receive email notifications when specific posts are replied to. Other features include polls posted by forum moderators designed to provide Xantech with feedback and user preferences and opinions about products. “It has become apparent that a centralized location to communicate directly with Xantech is very important,” said Carl Bevando, tech support specialist. “I look forward to connecting with installers over the internet.” Divided into categories including hardware and software, the forum gives users an outlet to discuss the entire Xantech product line in several sub-forums.

26)  Cabletime: Exclusive Distributor in The Netherlands

Cabletime, developer of the MediaStar range of TV and AV over Cat 5/IP distribution solutions, has appointed Forehand Netwerken BV as its exclusive distributor in The Netherlands. Forehand has built an excellent reputation in the Dutch market for its work in the development of network infrastructures, and acts as a knowledge centre for installers, consultants and end users. As a result of its new partnership with Cabletime, Forehand can broaden its portfolio of IP-based TV/video distribution over twisted pair. The company has already presented the MediaStar range to end users, leading to a very positive response and a number of installations are now underway. Paul Reeves, Sales and Marketing Director at Cabletime, said: “We recognise the potential that the Dutch market has for us, and we were keen to find a distribution partner that understood our products and had a ready-made roster of clients. Within a very short time Forehand has proven its credibility, technical understanding and superb client contacts and we look forward to a long and lucrative business relationship.” Both companies will be on the Cabletime stand F92 at ISE 2008.
