1)      ACF – Audio Visual Creative Fair at Heysel

From Wednesday 14th to Saturday 17th of November, Belgian and European audiovisual professionals will once again invade the exhibition halls 11 and 12 at Heysel. The 12th edition of this uniquely positioned European trade fair continues its tradition (it takes place every two years starting in 2006 and stages every other year in Hungary) and should again meet with considerable success with more than one hundred exhibitors from the four corners of Europe covering an area of 22,000qm.

2)      Integrated Systems Roadshow returns from record-breaking tour

Celebrating a 50% increase in both exhibitor numbers and visitor attendance, the Integrated Systems Roadshow has completed its tour of duty for another year. Total attendee numbers were over 600, exceeding all the organisers’ expectations, with visitors coming from a variety of countries, not just the host nations. Copenhagen, for example, drew large numbers of visitors from Sweden, while Slovenian and Hungarian delegates were drawn to Vienna, and Zagreb saw visitors from throughout the former Yugoslav republics, including Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina. Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, comments: “With exhibitor and visitor numbers both substantially up on last year, our Roadshow has again proved itself to be a popular and successful means for the industry to 'reach out' to new markets. Visitor feedback in all five cities was excellent, and I was particularly pleased at how well-attended the education sessions were in two of our new venues, Copenhagen and Zagreb.” Post-event analysis of visitor data shows that delegates came from a rich variety of backgrounds, including commercial AV integration, home cinema and automation, conferencing, IT, and consultancy. There were also significant numbers of commercial end users in all cities. In this respect, the attendance mirrors that of Integrated Systems Events’ flagship January tradeshow. The 5th edition of Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) will be held again in Amsterdam, Netherlands from the 29th – 31st of January 2008.

5)      Sony PSE: The Highlight of the new „Big Six“ Series

Sony Professional Solutions Europe presented its first WXGA projector, the VPL-CW125. With the launch of an entire six new projectors in its C-series range, designed for education and business use, Sony has tripled its mid-range of installation projectors. A key addition to the range is the Sony VPL-CW125, which follows the recent note PC trend towards widescreen displays. This top-of-the-range projector features the newly developed 0.74-inch WXGA 1366 x 800 LCD panel for true native widescreen resolution, allowing users to display WXGA resolution PC screen content as well as 16:9 ratio video. The VPL-CW125 projector delivers exceptional image quality, more natural colours and unsurpassed brightness in any room - even if it has awkward obstructions, thanks to its Side Shot Digital Horizontal Shift feature. Plus users have full networking capability and optional Ziris Manage Lite software so you can control your VPL-CW125 and other Sony RJ45 projectors remotely and in real time. Plus, quiet operation is vital for a compelling presentation. At only 28dB in standard mode, the operating noise of the VPL-CW125 is quieter than a whisper. Another new addition is the cooling: Since the lamp is no longer hidden by projector parts, the temperature in the device is lowered tremendously. In result, the lamp life span is extended and operation costs are reduced.

17)  Matrox: Bezel Displacement designed for digital signage professionals

Matrox Graphics Inc., manufacturer of professional graphics solutions, announces the release of Matrox Bezel Displacement for digital signage. This unique-to-Matrox feature provides image compensation for the physical border of monitor bezels, allowing multi-display content to appear as if it is passing behind the bezels for a more realistic and attractive look. Content across multiple displays no longer looks distorted since the monitor bezels that cause the image to appear elongated and unnatural are now recognized and adjusted for. The feature is simple and easy to use, and its effect is very valuable in digital signage applications. "Matrox created Bezel Displacement to make multi-display digital signage content look more compelling and eye-catching," says Ron Berty, Matrox Business Development Manager - Digital Signage. "We believe content is king, but content alone is not enough. It must be presented correctly in order to make the greatest impact. This feature helps deliver a more refined message when stretching dynamic content across multiple displays." With support for both 2x2 and nx1 (horizontally aligned) landscape display configurations, this feature recognizes and removes the section of multi-display imagery that crosses the display bezels. Matrox Bezel Displacement treats the multi-display image as one area, across all displays, including the region occupied by the bezels. As a result, scrolling text, images and video appear more legible and appealing to the eye. For more information on Matrox Bezel Displacement visit See it right with Matrox Bezel Management. Matrox Bezel Displacement is available on Matrox QID Series (QID LP PCIe, QID LP PCI, QID Pro and QID) and upon request on Matrox Extio F1400 and F1420 Remote Graphics Units (RGU). The feature is supported with Matrox PowerDesk-SE 2.04 driver and above.

19)  EBS: Mobile Interactive Glass Display

A stainless steel rollable frame, a projector, a projection surface made of glass as well as an interactive system together build an elegant, mobile and extremely functional system for presentations and seminars. 25)  Kramer Introduces Matrix Switcher for HDMI Signals

Kramer Electronics is pleased to announce the availability of the VS-42HDMI Matrix Switcher for HDMI signals. The 4x2 switcher offers signal optimization and EDID data capabilities. Its feature set and small frame size make it ideal in HD-equipped conference, advertising, or rental and staging environments. The switcher is compatible with all HDTV signal types and features Kramer re-Klocking and equalization technology that rebuilds the signal allowing it to travel longer distances. The VS-42HDMI is able to route any or all inputs to any or all outputs simultaneously and supports HDCP (High Definition Digital Content Protection). The VS-42HDMI matrix switcher routes HDMI 1.1 signals up to 1.65Gbps bandwidth per graphic channel. Kramer uses a sophisticated and unique EDID handling mechanism to make installation and operation of HDMI devices a “plug and play” experience. EDID data allows the output device to describe its capabilities to the HDMI source, providing the VS-42HDMI with key information about the monitors connected to the outputs. The VS-42HDMI captures the output device’s EDID information and stores it in a non-volatile memory. The user can recall this setting or a factory default EDID of 720p if one is not stored. This allows a convenient and reliable connection to the source.

29)  G+B: The 6mm Black LED Module with 2000 Nit from Mitsubishi

In September the Black LED wall from Gahrens + Battermann made its first appearance. On Telekom’s IFA exhibition stand, the new module made a big impression with its highly contrasting stage background.  Audi also took advantage of the exceptional quality of the Black LED on their IAA stand. In simple terms, the special technical feature of the Black LED technology is to be found in the miniaturisation of the LEDs and in the adjustment of the so-called shaders in the individual LED casing. These shaders are made of a specially coloured plastic which is significantly blacker than existing products. As a result of these smaller LEDs, more of this black surface is visible – this effect brings about the enormous improvement in contrast in the whole picture. Black surfaces are blacker than ever – but every other colour also seems much brighter and has a more intensive contrast. With regard to the resolution too, the Mitsubishi modules are top-class: With real 6mm pixel distance they have over 2,000 more pixels per square metre at their disposal than comparable material. The HD-ready processor also promises qualitatively the best possible results.  “We have years of experience in the LED/SMD field and value the quality of our 6mm products very highly”, explains Andreas Pater, Managing Director of Gahrens + Battermann. “The picture quality is excellent and the system runs with absolute stability. However with the Black LED modules there is a further technological advance which puts all the present standards of picture quality in the shade and creates movement in the branch”, Pater continues.

As well as being the same size and weight (293 x 442 x 692 mm, 30 kg) the two lenses used are also identical. There are four lenses here covering the range from 1.2:1 to 7.0:1 and a lens with a fixed focal length of 0.85:1. 31)  The Christie from CL

Growth at CL video rental GmbH & Co. KG: The technical rental firm has bought the Christie HD8K. With its 8,000 ANSI lumens, it really belongs amongst the smaller projectors in the rental programme, but alongside its HD facility and extremely compact design – it weighs just 36 kg – it has more advantages to offer. The projector has all the DVI, HD/SDI-SDI connections as a standard and, also as a standard, it comes in a robust metal frame. This frame makes it easier to hang up the projectors and to stack them. From the side of the rental company there are also persuasive arguments: the Christie HD8K can be combined with the existing Barco TLD lenses without difficulties.

33)  Zandar: ABC Television, Australia implements Predator HD MultiViewers

Australian national broadcaster ABC Television has purchased five Predator HD MultiViewers from Zandar Technologies for use in the HD Studio of its facility in Ultimo, New South Wales. The units were supplied through Techtel, a leading independent supplier to the broadcast television, radio and communications markets of Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia and were integrated into the HD Studio system by Thomson Grass Valley. 34)  Invision UK: NetStreams demonstrates IP-Based Home Cinema

NetStreams, global leader in networked audio/video distribution based on Internet Protocol (IP), conducted the first public demonstration of an IP-Based Home Theater at the recent Denver CEDIA Expo. The demonstration, located in a special sound room at the show, marked another industry first for NetStreams by demonstrating unprecedented improvements in sound quality, thanks to NetStreams’ IP technology. “NetStreams has redefined the ultimate home cinema experience with our IP-Based Home Cinema solution,” stated Herman Cárdenas, the company’s Founder and Chairman. He continued “An IP-Based Home Cinema is one in which all of the elements of the home Cinema, the sources, display, speakers, and controllers, communicate with each other over a TCP/IP network. High definition, multi-channel audio and video content is streamed to the speakers and to the displays over the IP network using our exclusive StreamNet technology.” “One of the benefits in making the home cinema IP-Based is that sources that were typically isolated in the home cinema are now available throughout the home,” commented Peter Alloway, Invision UK’s sales manager. “By making the home cinema IP-Based, we can easily integrate it with the rest of the home and stream sources to and from the home cinema, regardless of where those sources are located on the network. Additionally, since the home cinema now resides on a network, the home cinema can be controlled from any web browser based user interface, providing for easy homeowner control of the entire system.”

35)  DMi announces Change to distributed Brand Line Up

DMi D&M Installation has announced that it will undertake the distribution of a new multi-room networking solution provider in the new year. The announcement follows an agreement reached with Opus Technologies to cease distribution of its multi-room audio and video systems. DMi’s strategy, as a one-stop provider of CI and commercial AV solutions, offers potential for a multi-room system closely integrated with the developing network capabilities of its Denon, Escient and Marantz distributed brands. Opus Technologies decision, taken earlier this year, to pursue its own distribution strategy, has prompted DMi to specify a networking system requirement with the closest possible fit to the capabilities of the latest systems and products from its distributed brands. The evolving networking capabilities of products from these manufacturers provides the increasing potential for powerful multi-room solutions that will lead the market. Commenting, DMi General Manager, Mark Perrins, stated, “We have an evolving requirement in respect of multi-room AV distribution and control, with the powerful networking capabilities of new products from Escient and Denon and Marantz. Our objective must be to offer our customers the means of fully exploiting these features in the design of AV systems, and to fully support that capability in the market. “DMi is seeking a solution that will provide it with the networking technology and feature fit to fully exploit and support product development from these manufacturers. An announcement detailing the outcome of that process, and a new product line, will be made at the beginning of 2008.”

40)  viscom 2007 Significantly Rejuvenated – Final Report

There was a fresh wind blowing this year for visual communication at the viscom. From the digital high end to the classic outline: the variety of products in visual communication is greater than ever. This was reflected at the viscom, which presented a much rejuvenated face this year. The total of 8,900 specialist visitors meant that the organisers, Reed Exhibitions Germany, were able to register a result which came close to the levels of the previous event (2005 – 9023). There was a significant increase in the number of advertising agencies and contractors from the industry and department store sectors who made their way to Düsseldorf this year. “The reorientation of viscom as an exhibition for visual communication is bearing its first fruit”, said Hans-Joachim Erbel, director of Reed Exhibitions Germany. Apart from the advertising technicians who traditionally form the core of the viscom, there were significantly more visitors from advertising agencies, from the industry and department store sectors, including many who were interested especially in the modern forms of visual communication. The best example of this is digital signage which was presented at the viscom for the first time. The next viscom in Germany will be from 30th October to 1st November 2008 in hall 3 of the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre.
