5) Toshiba T50/S30: low cost light-weights
Toshiba’s line
of Professional Visual Products is extending their portfolio. The two
novelties T50 (XGA) and S30 (SVGA) are well suited for mobile operations as
well as for conference and school environments. With a weight of only 2.3 kg
they have a brightness of 1,400 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio of 400:1.
Both LCD projectors are equipped with keystone correction of +/- 15 degrees,
which can be operated either manually or automatically. The integrated Auto-Off function enables
the machine to switch itself off at a certain time after it has not been used
for a while. The infrared remote control as well as a newly designed menu
with icons encourages an even easier operation of the devices with fewer
problems. The ECO-Mode spares the projection lamp and decreases the quiet
ventilator sound. The T50 (suggested retail price: 3816,40 €) and the S30
(suggested retail price 2540,40 €) are available starting November at
distributors and specialized trade dealers.

6) GretagMacbeth: color calibration for beamers
The newest addition to the award
winning Eye-One color management system is the Eye-One Beamer. The Eye-One
Beamer allows presenters to quickly and automatically adjust the color on
digital projectors to accurately replicate the colors they intended. The
Eye-One Beamer package works in conjunction with the Eye-One handheld
spectral measuring device that reads color from all sources and on all types
of monitors and a USB cable that connects the device to a computer. It
provides a portable and easy-to-use color management solution for calibrating
and color correcting digital projection devices using ICC profiles.
Furthermore the package also includes the new Eye-One Beamer holder for
positioning the Beamer on a projector, so that the temperature can be read
directly in front of the lens. Included is a color management software CD as
well. The Eye-One Beamer will be available starting in December 2002.

7) Metz: First- and Second vote for Metz KRETA 63
Already in
September 120 Metz TVs were installed in the German Parliament. After the
official advertisement of the job profile it became clear that the individual
and convertible Metz TVs would be ideal. Special attention was given to the
retrofitting capability of the DVB-T modules. By the year 2003 the analog
reception will be substituted by a digital one in Berlin and in the
surrounding area. This is no problem for Metz TVs – they can easily be
retrofitted by a specialist dealer with a DVB-T socket module. Therefore a
digital reception without a Set-Top Box is possible. Another advantage: no
further remote controls are necessary. Especially the KRETA 63 was very
impressive, because it offers this merit for a screen size of only 63 cm
(only 59cm are visible). The nearest
CE specialist dealer will take care of current software updates. In Berlin it
is already certain that more appliances are soon to follow.

23) Mitsubishi: 50-inch display with DLP technology

Mitsubishi Electric works with a XGA-DMD Chip (size: 0,7 inch), which projects
real XGA images in a Display-Cube. The Display achieves a brightness of

semiconductor device and therefore not prone to heat absorption even when
frozen images or patterns are shown for a longer period of time. Thanks to
this technology no burning-in effects occur. The display VS-50FD10U offers a
lamp life of approximately 8,000 hours with a 100W UHP mercury lamp and was

36) IC: Plasma-TV’s expanded their home cinema segment by 39% !
The market for
plasma TVs in the so-called home cinema area increased by 39% in the first
quarter, as a new survey by the InterConnection Consulting Group proved. This
segment was dominated by devices, which were between 30 and 34 inches. In
comparison to the first quarter the second quarter increased by 28%. In total
the home cinema sector constituted 62% of the total market. The private
sector is lead by Philips and Panasonic, Sony is at 3rd place. At a
respectable distance Thomson, Samsung and Bang &Olufsen, who could triple
their sales from the first to the second quarter follow. Due to the general
declining price development, the lowest price segment could win some market
share. Approximately 40% of the entire market for plasma screens lies under
the price of 7,000 € for a 42 inch device. Many new Korean manufacturers are
pushing onto the market and are forcing even lower prices. The 300 page
comprehensive text "PLASMA MONITOR IN EUROPA 2002-2" is available
for the price of 4,500 €.
