Dear Newsletter Readers,

To the Table of Contents

in this issue of http://www.avp-newsletter.com/ we have latest news from the data- and video projection/-presentation. We would like to draw your attention to the autumn novelties which were presented i.e. on the photokina (28.9.-3.10.2004).

1) photokina: professional media in the shade of digital photography

This year´s fair most certainly turned out to be the top-class sector festival that the photographic and imaging industry had been expecting. At the end of six highly successful trade fair days, photokina 2004 finally closed its doors on October 3, 2004. Besides registering more exhibitors and more visitors than at the previous event, this year´s fair also posted even better business results. It thus not only confirmed that the sector is currently booming, but also represented a new high point as the industry continues to move forward toward an even brighter future.

However, the entire professional media sector including projection- and presentation technology appeared unoriented. Advanced digitalisation in imaging and photography and the coalescence of professional AV- and consumer-markets lead to the loss of important exhibitors and product groups in the professional media area, the hall 10.2. Professional AV products from Canon, Casio, Epson, HP and Panasonic were showcased in the consumer halls 1-3 instead. Leading projector and display manufacturers were missing entirely.

Apart from well-known AV distributors, projector- and display-manufacturers and a few AV-system houses it were the manufacturers of screens and other professional AV accessories that were present in great numbers. They were very satisfied with the show. Especially companies with a strong presence abroad could profit from the high number of trade visitors that came from outside Germany.

The KoelnMesse is speaking about a superlative photokina. Altogether, 1,589 suppliers from 50 countries, 61 percent of them from outside Germany, and more than 160,000 visitors - including more than 110,000 trade visitors - attended the event in Cologne. Altogether 72 percent of the trade visitors were professional users; 28 percent came from the trade. As far as the resellers were concerned, 57 percent were photographic trade dealers; the rest were representatives from the numerous other trade businesses that include imaging products and services in their product range. The next photokina will be held from September 26th until October 1st 2006 in Cologne.
