in this issue of www.AVP-Newsletter.com you are informed about latest news on data- and videoprojection/ -presentation. What are the new products this fall? What were this year’s IFA highlights? Special focus in this issue is towards home cinema news that could be seen on IFA.

1) IFA, Internationale Funkausstellung 2003: successful exhibition

Organizer and exhibitors are highly satisfied: - "The fair was very international and has exceeded any expectations on organization and exhibitor’s side“ – thus the positive echo from IFA-organization gfu and Messe Berlin. Not only was the number of visitors very satisfying but there was also great interest on dealer side. A lot of orders could be placed.  "IFA was very successful for Toshiba, because people like new products“ says Frank Eschholz, Product Manager Visual Products, TOSHIBA EUROPE GmbH and goes on: "We now have counted much more visits from dealers than two years ago, and we have excellent sales.”

Post exhibition business seems to be getting very positive as well: Peter Koch, Product Manager LG Electronics Deutschland GmbH, says that the interest for new plasma- and LCD-TV-products (LG presented a 71“ plasma display) was overwhelming and that they expect good sales figures.

Despite of the shortened duration of exhibition IFA 2003 definitely was a magnet of visitors. All in all 270.000 visitors and 1007 exhibitors were counted. A questionnaire of trade visitors resulted in the following answers: 65 % were interested  in television/entertainment (65%). 12 % (2001=5%) were visitors from abroad. 80 % of the exhibitors are already decided to participate in next time’s IFA in 2005.

11) Canon: Three new projectors

Canon introduces three new projectors: LV-7215, LV-7210 and LV-5210, all of them part of the new multimedia product family. Six image settings provide perfect picture adjustment for data and video projection. Switch to hi-contrast mode to make graphs and photographs look sharper. Cinema mode is ideal for watching films in a darkened room. While custom mode lets you fine-tune several factors, including adjusting images that are too light or too dark. Canon's Auto Image mode is especially useful for video and DVD projection in darkened rooms. When black areas on a screen are a shade too light, the projector automatically adjusts lamp brightness to bring out a pure black effect. When a projector is placed at an angle to the screen it can cause image distortion. The LV-7215 features both horizontal and vertical Keystone Correction to overcome this problem, providing distortion-free images. A DVI-D interface gives a direct digital connection to compatible PCs and DVD players, for a clearer picture. A high quality component video connection supports VCR, DVD and High Definition TV projection. All three projectors look alike from the outside, the only difference is in resolution and brightness: LV-7215 has 2500 ANSI-lumens and LV-7210 has 2000 ANSI-lumens. Both have XGA resolution. LV-5210 has 2000 ANSI-lumens with SVGA resolution for pin sharp images.

32) TDS: Gustav-Walle School in Wuerzburg wins a multimedia classroom

Four companies, TDS Promethean, Sanyo, Wacom and mcr-gmbh joined forces earlier this year to present solutions for interactive classrooms on the annual education fair in Nürnberg. They had launched a competition for schools to submit ideas about their ideal interactive classroom. The Gustav-Walle-Hauptschule in Wuerzburg has won this competition with prizes of a total value of €9,000.00. Their excellent project - a joint effort of the class 9c and their teacher -  draws a realistic picture about how an interactive classroom could look like. In particular, they took into consideration pedagogical aspects in a day-to-day teaching situation. The visionary head teacher, Mr Linus Dietz, was of course very happy when he learned the news and invited immediately one representative of the companies to present the prize during the end-of-school assembly to all year nine classes and their teachers. In Autumn, the ACTIVboard, projector and interactive panel will be installed in the school, followed by an inauguration ceremony. All participating companies congratulate the Gustav-Walle-Hauptschule for winning this first prize.
