IFA:
upsurge in international interest
IFA in Berlin will be opening its doors from 2nd
to 7th September. For the organizers, gfu and Messe Berlin, the
IFA-PreViews in Hamburg and Munich were a complete success. Some 500
journalists from all over Germany came in search of information about new
products and trends at IFA 2005. Jens Heithecker, director of the Competence
Centre at Messe Berlin and IFA Project Manager, was convinced that “the IFA
PreViews 2005 reflects the curiosity in IFA and about the consumer
electronics (CE) sector in general, and proves that this tradeshow is on the
fast track to more success. Expansion of the rented display area has reached
double figures, and increased interest around the world indicates that this
year’s IFA will be bigger than ever.” The dynamic growth of the CE sector
also takes the form of technological developments. “Visitors to the IFA 2005
– whether members of the public or from the trade – will be delighted with an
enormous range of new items”, says Roland M. Stehle, gfu press spokesman.
“From new mobile applications to attractive LCD and plasma screen technology,
and high definition television HDTV, all the latest developments can be
examined in detail in Berlin starting on 2nd September.” First
innovations were presented at the IFA PreViews, including the world’s
smallest PC at the heart of in-car entertainment system, LCD-TVs that can be
individually configured regarding technology and styling, and the smallest
projector in the world - not larger than a cigarette packet. HDTV is a major
topic at the IFA Trend Talk entitled: “When will Germany finally get improved
television?” Dr. Georg Kofler, Chairman of the Board of Premiere AG,
emphasized at the forum: “HDTV will be the most important development for the
next few years and will have a corresponding influence on the worldwide TV
industrie. The IFA will be launching this new television age this September.”
Intel also attracted a great deal of attention with its statement that IFA,
for them, at this point is the most important tradeshows worldwide. Intel,
accordingly, will showcase its largest presentation ever. Other companies
participating at the IFA Previews were Blaupunkt, Casio Europe, Daewoo,
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Grundig, Hitachi, Intel, LG Electronics, Loewe,
NEC, Panasonic, Philips, Phocus Electronics, Pioneer, Sharp, Toshiba and
Yakumo. More: http://www.ifa-berlin.de Enjoy reading

2) Mitsubishi Electric: two new
entry-level models
Mitsubishi Electric has
enhanced its product portfolio by two DLP projectors which are suitable for
any application and everyone’s budget. The new entry-level models, XD110U and
SD110U, offer a good combination of technically handy functions at a little
investment for the cost-conscious customer. Featuring 1700 ANSI lumens, users
need not worry about fade-outs when it comes to both the XD110U projector and
the SD110U projector. Pin sharp images are projected with a contrast ratio of
2000:1. Regarding reliability, neither of the two models makes any
compromises. More: http://www.mitsubishi-evs.de/en/home.asp 3) BenQ: new PB6240 business
projector
BenQ has recently introduced a new business projector to the market,
the BenQ PB6240. For the first time, BenQ offers an entry-level projector
with a brightness of 2700 ANSI lumens. Furthermore, the projector is
characterized by an extraordinary silent operational noise level of only 31
dB (in ECO mode) in its class. In addition to high brightness, the use of the
well proven DLP technology at a contrast ratio of 2000:1 guarantees pin sharp
images and vivid colours. Additional functions like trapezoid correction,
automatic signal input search, sound- and image screen, tilting and mirroring
etc. make handling easy and functional. A range of connection possibilities
extend the application area of this projector. Visual data can be transmitted

NEC:
high-definition devices from NEC
NEC
is showcasing the latest entertainment electronics technologies at IFA 2005
in Berlin. The focus is on the home cinema sector. The company is also
presenting the new DVD burner, which can now support DVD-RAM for the first
time. NEC is displaying application possibilities for perfect home cinema
enjoyment in a “digital living room” and other living and working spaces
equipped with the latest in multimedia technology. Controlled by a HD DVD PC
driver or a HD DVD player, plasma TVs and home cinema projectors from NEC
open the door to a totally new dimension of viewing pleasure. Award-winning
home cinema projectors – creating that “cinema feeling” in even the smallest
of rooms. The home cinema projectors HT1100 and HT510 which NEC is presenting
at IFA are likewise HDTV compatible. The HT1100 offers a sharp contrast (3500:1) and luminosity
(1,100 ANSI lumens). The HT510 surprises with its especially quiet operation
(26 dB), high contrast (1,200:1) and additional features such as wall colour
correction and numerous connections for video, digi-cams, PC, DVD and game
consoles. Those who had to do without spectacular home cinema in the past
because their living rooms were too small will be delighted by the WT610 and
WT615 projectors, recipients of the Plus X Award. At just 6.4 cm from the
wall, they create a projection surface with a diagonal of more than one metre
and are remarkable for their high contrast (3,500:1) paired with high
luminosity (2,000 ANSI lumens). The devices are W-LAN compatible. Add the
matching home cinema furniture to make this set even more attractive and save
additional space – for users who want a tasteful interior as well as
magnificent cinema. You
will find NEC at IFA 2005 at booth 317 in hall 26. More: http://www.de.nec.de/home.php/lang/ENG
7) Projectiondesign presented
projector study
Projectiondesign caused a
sensation when they presented the 10K concept model on InfoComm. The single
chip DLP projector with 10,000 Ansi lumens, SXGA+ resolution (1400x1050
pixels), patented DuArch lighting system and 2x450W lamps realized a super
bright and pin sharp image. There is only one study to date that shows what
can be made possible with Texas Instruments’ single chip DLP technology, and
the innovative manufacturer proved this using know-how in optics and
mechanics. The Projectiondesign F3 model was awarded the "best in
show" award on InfoComm. Available as XGA and SXGA+ model, the 5500 Ansi
lumens bright and rich-in-contrast single chip projector is equipped with a
two lamp system, two colour wheels and two light channels. The 12 kg device
works very reliable (24/7 suitable) and very silent (30dB). After being in
business for four years, Projectiondesign can offer a broad product range:
the EVO model in the business series, F platform devices, F1+ and F3, in the
professional range, as well as the ACTION! models in the home cinema series
and the CINEO model in the e-Cinema range. More: http://www.projectiondesign.com 8) Christie: high resolution
projection solutions for control rooms
Christie Digital, provider of
visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, has recently
presented the new GraphXMASTER RPMSP-D100U SXGA+ projection solution for rear
screen and control room applications and the GraphXMASTER CSP70-D100U 70“
SXGA+ rear projection cube. Both devices are the latest developments in this
innovative series featuring independent projection systems for command and
control rooms, large screen tiled wall displays, network operations centres
and all other 24/7 mission critical environments. In addition to SXGA+
resolution, both products offer 1100 ANSI lumens and a unique dual UHP lamp
system. 1-chip DLP technology together with modular architecture allow for
considerable advantages in a very efficient performance. The rear projection
module can support a large number of various image sizes from 50“ up to 120“.
Two different lenses are available: a 0.7:1 wide angle lens and a 1.16:1
version. The Christie cube is a one-in-all, independent 70“ display system
with an integrated RPMSP-D100U operating system. The GraphXMASTER RPMSP
Series provide the ideal industrial grade solution designed specifically for
rear screen and control room applications. More: http://www.christiedigital.co.uk 9) sax3d.com GmbH: software for
automatic projector controlling
The
german sax3d.com gmbh, the manufacturer of the Holographic-Optical Projection
Screen HOPS.®, has developed a software to switch on and off projectors
automatically. The problem of using projectors in the area of advertising
(POS / POI) is the limitation of the running time of the projectors (hours
per day / days per week), to fulfil the guarantee conditions. By using the
sax3d.com software a time-controlled switch on and switch off of one to four
projectors is possible. By combination of the several projectors you can
control if two projectors should run two times a day or one projector should
run four times a day. This makes possible to let the projectors run all day
without manual action and without breaking the guarantee conditions of the
projector manufacturer. More: http://www.sax3d.com 10) Kindermann: anti-theft protection
system for ceiling projectors
Kindermann
presented its new protection case for ceiling projectors. This protection
system is suitable for projectors which are mounted with Kindermann ceiling
mounts K-Vario Pro, K-Vario eco or Toshiba’s ceiling mount. The anti-theft
device is a powder-coated (RAL 9006) metal case in the size of 470 x 450 x
300 mm (L x W x H) featuring a glazed projection opening (250 x 150 mm).
There is a revision cap on top of the case which is fixed by lever pivot so
that only authorized personnel can get direct access. The protection case is
suitable for projectors up to a size of 370 x 370 x 150 mm (L x W x H). The
anti-theft protection system with a weight of 8.2 kg can be effortlessly
fixed to the ceiling mount. A special grid material secures the projector’s
ventilation. Projectors can still be controlled by remote control. Combination
possibilities with other ceiling mounts are available upon request. More:
