1)      New Best Results for SHOWTECH 2007

Exhibitors like the organisers Reed Exhibitions have been able to show successful returns after three days of the SHOWTECH 2007. With 7,340 trade visitors (up 6.9% over 2005) the specialist exhibition for event technology, events and services continues the growth it has achieved in recent years with no sign of stopping. This time there were important influences from abroad. In this area the number of visitors increased to 30% altogether (up 5%). In particular the new spirit of optimism in Eastern and Northern Europe had a positive effect on the way the business went. “SHOWTECH has succeeded in building up its strengths on a more international stage”, according to SHOWTECH director Britta Wirtz at the close of the SHOWTECH in Berlin. SHOWTECH was waiting at the starting line with 350 exhibitors (up 13%) from 25 nations and had high expectations. At the end of the exhibition the exhibitors declared themselves highly satisfied. The next SHOWTECH takes place in Berlin from 16th to 18th June 2009.

2)      viscom goes Digital Signage

Digital signage is coming more and more to the fore in public places: whether as advertising in the form of electronic ticker tape, digital posters or at stations or airports this form of displaying arrivals and departures has been standard for some time. In subway stations advertising can be shown which targets certain groups at certain times of the day. In hotels, mega stores and shops digital signage is also increasingly being used. This is reason enough for the viscom 2007 to allot digital signage more space. The Digital Signage Day on the second day of the exhibition will be providing information ranging from basic content design and planning to its perception and will show practical examples of the applications possible. The introduction to the subject begins with the question: Digital Signage – just a momentary hype or a trend for the future? Finally, on this day, there will be a podium discussion covering the subjects of the current signage market, effects and opportunities for traditional suppliers.  “With these measures we will meet the requirements of this segment’s growing significance”, explains viscom director Petra Lassahn. “Digital signage is set to become a new core segment at viscom."  viscom takes place from 20th to 22nd September in the two new exhibition halls 8a and 8b in the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre.

3)      TI: Latest from the InfoComm 07

At the InfoComm in Anaheim/USA DLP presented some innovations in chip sets and projectors with broad screen resolutions. Here, BrilliantColor from Texas Instruments is becoming increasingly popular according to TI in Anaheim at the InfoComm. New DLP chip sets speed up the implementation of this new technology for colour processing which provides DLP projectors with an improved colour reproduction. 14 new BrilliantColor projectors were presented at the InfoComm. DLP projectors with BrilliantColor use up to six separate colours to create the picture. Red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow ensure a broader bandwidth for more natural, living colours. BrilliantColor allows the colour brightness to be improved by around 50 percent and broadens the colour range beyond the three basic colours RGB.

4)      InFocus: InFocus Work Big IN10

Small, light, powerful: that is the new InFocus Work Big IN10. The successor to the successful mobile LP70+ projector puts ideas, presentations and pictures up on the screen brilliantly. Externally the IN10 has taken over the clear design of the LP70+, however on the inside it is packed with technical highlights. These include 1,800 ANSI lumens, native XGA resolution and a contrast of 1,100:1. The WorkBig IN10 weighs one kilo just like its predecessor the LP70+. In addition, both projectors are fitted with Texas Instruments’ DLP technology.

5)      CASIO presents two new super-slim projectors

CASIO has brought two new business projectors in the super-slim class onto the market: the XJ-S46 and the XJ-S41, with 2,500 ANSI lumens. Thanks to the optical two-fold motorised zoom, presentations can be adapted to fit the widest variety of room sizes. The XJ-S46 is fitted with a USB socket so that presentations are not dependent on the PC or notebook. With dimensions of 207 x 43 x 199mm (32 mm at the thinnest point) the projectors are smaller than a sheet of DIN A4 paper and weigh just 1.8 kg. The integrated USB socket makes the XJ-S46 model the ideal companion for mobile use: presentations (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel or PDF files) can be converted into a JPEG format with the “EZ-Converter” software which is included and then shown directly from the USB stick. Playback starts automatically and can be conveniently operated by remote control. The optical two-fold motorised zoom allows a large amount of flexibility for use in the most varied room situations: whether it’s a small office, business lounge or large conference room – the zoom helps to keep the picture perfectly scaled. For additional comfort when projecting, there is an automatic keystone correction, quick start function and direct power off function.

6)      Sony PSE: Projector six-pack for the mid-range segment

Six new LCD projectors for the middle segment will expand Sony Professional Solutions Europe’s C-series. The so-called “Big SIX” are the six new models between 2700 and 3500 ANSI lumens. The new C-series consists of the basic model VPL-CX100 and the devices built onto it. Three of them can be put into a network and controlled remotely. Currently the series starts with the projectors VPL-CX120 and VPL-CX150. The last product in this range will be for the first time a projector with WXGA resolution: the VPL-CW125. All six models together have the improved dust filter and higher lamp efficiency. The high contrast of 650:1 is also new along with the precise corner illumination. The highlight of the “Big Six” is the VPL-CX125, Sony’s first wide XGA projector. The format matches the native resolution of many widescreen notebooks. The other five devices in the C-series also guarantee top-quality presentations.

7)      Christie: Christie LX650: compact single-lamp 3LCD projector

The Christie LX650, fitted with the new LCD technology and long lifetime single-lamp optics, can manage an impressive 6,500 ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 2000:1. The projector has been developed to meet the requirements of medium-sized meeting rooms and education departments (up to approx. 250 participants). The device is just as popular with project consultants as with organisers as it offers a high level of flexibility with regard to showing graphics, computer data and 10-bit video data on high resolution players with widths of just 1.85 metres to 6 metres. This improved efficiency is largely due to the innovative cooling and air filter system in the Christie LX650 which makes itself noticed by the pleasantly low maintenance needs. In addition to that the projector is armed with horizontal and vertical lens shift, zoom, focus and keystone correction and a multitude of standard inputs which means it has a broad installation and operating flexibility.

8)      Barco: Network-centric projection systems

Barco has presented the latest additions to its line of network-centric projection systems. The iCon NH-12 and Galaxy NH-12 combine the best of three-chip DLP technology and stereoscopic, system-integrated display techniques with a 12,000 lumens light output and the newest durability-enhancing chassis. The iCon NH-12 and Galaxy NH-12 display all local and networked sources in movable, reconfigurable and resizable windows simultaneously. Their advanced picture-in-picture capabilities also make them suitable for videoconferencing in 1080p HD. They are operated with keyboard and mouse, and both sources and layouts can be selected easily through the Start Menu, thanks to special Barco software. While the iCon will be at home primarily in auditoriums and large boardrooms, the Galaxy is the perfect tool for design and analysis environments.

9)      WolfVision: SXGA-/HD Progressive Scan Camera EYE-12

The EYE-12 is the third Progressive Scan Live Image Camera released by WolfVision. The EYE-12 can be seen as the "big brother" of the EYE-10 model, which was released in May 2006. It comes with the same "eye-shaped" and "eye-catching" outside design. Compared to the EYE-10 (which remains in WolfVision's product line as the "basic model") the EYE-12 comes with a number of additional features, such as USB-, LAN- and DVI ports and Power over Ethernet (PoE). The heart of the EYE-12 is a sensational CCD camera with 1280 x 960 pixels at 30 frames per second. This is native SXGA-resolution with an aspect ratio of 4:3. The camera also outputs native 720p HD (High Definition) with 1280 x 720 pixels in a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. Using a display device with 1280 x 960 (or more) pixels, a resolution of 820 lines is visible. But even when the image is downscaled by the EYE-12 to XGA and output on an XGA display device, the resolution is still around 740 lines. WolfVision's EYE-series cameras can be used for a number of different applications: High Resolution live image transmissions from room to room (room camera), Videoconferencing (audience camera and document camera / Visualizer), High resolution surveillance or Various medical applications (Telemedicine, etc.) WolfVision also offers the EYE-series cameras as camera modules (without housing and accessories). The camera module version of the EYE-12 is called SCB-12 and the camera module of the EYE-10 is called SCB-1. WolfVision offers 3 years warranty on all Visualizers and Cameras.

10)  Projecta: Fast-Fold® and Heavy Duty Fast-Fold® Deluxe

With their new projection screen Fast-Fold® Projecta is presenting a projection screen with a black rear surface which can be completely folded up. This special black coating is an innovation which provides better picture quality and less light scattering behind the screen. A further special feature of the Fast-Fold® screen is that it is possible to deliver seamless screens up to a height of 488 cm. The new fabric is supplied at no extra cost when ordering a complete Fast-Fold® screen with Matte White fabric or separate Matte White projection screen fabric. Projecta's Heavy Duty Fast-Fold® Deluxe screens feature new, extra-strong frame tubes and hinges, making them extremely durable. When they are folded up completely, each screen fits into a robust transporting case with rollers. For this reason the Fast-Fold® can be quickly set up anywhere you wish – in the open or indoors. As a result these screens are excellent for big events such as exhibitions, festivals and congresses. For many years rental firms have greatly valued the successful on-the-road concept and not only due to the extremely high durability.

11)  Da-Lite Earns Product Awards at InfoComm

Da-Lite Screen Company was honored at the 2007 AV Communications Excellence Awards at InfoComm with the product award for the projection screen category. The independent panel at Rental & Staging magazine selected the Heavy Duty Fast-Fold® Deluxe screen as the Best Projection Screen Product of 2007. The Heavy Duty Fast-Fold® Deluxe screen with Da-Mat fabric is now foldable black backed material. 12)  G+B pronova presents a world first with CABIvision

CABIvision has not been around for long: an idea from CABINET cupboard systems. A projector screen integrated into the front of the cabinet and a projector inside the cupboard provides the viewer with brilliant pictures. The function of the cupboard is not at all compromised by being used at the same time as a piece of entertainment furniture. The projector inside the cabinet needs only a minimal amount of space. If the projector is not being used, the screen functions as a “normal” cupboard front. This special rear-projection screen (ProLite) is being marketed by G+B pronova from Gladbach. The acrylic screen provides enormous flexibility when operating: it can be cut according to requirements in almost any size or format. CABIvision offers picture sizes up to 75 inches. The material is exceptionally easy to care for and can be cleaned with standard glass cleaner without problems. Along with ProLite, G+B pronova also offers a comprehensive line-up of projection screens conceived for the widest variety of applications.
