A special highlight was the event of the SHOWTECH Product Award that was donated for innovative and creative solutions in the event technology area in three categories: stage technology, light- and projection technology and sound and media technology. 35 exhibitors of the SHOWTECH handed in their products. The lottery drawing of the winners took place at the first evening of the fair at the “Foyer Sued”. The Berlin Reed GmbH and the DTHG (German theatre technology society), the organisers of the Berlin fair presented the award.

7) AVE at the  SHOWTECH

AVE showed three innovative highlights of presentation technology at the SHOWTECH 2003. Projections on not flat surfaces (cylinder, bowl), projections on extremely short distance and editing as well as transmission in HD video! The NEC GT 5000 with new innovative LCD GBP with integrated WARP technology projects also on cylinders and bowls. 5.5 cm as projection distance are enough for the new projector NEC WT 600. With a projection distance of 5.5 up to 65 cm it is possible to create screen diagonals of 1 up to 2.5 m via an aspheric mirror. And with “CLIPSTER” by DVS the new HDTV real-time editing workstation for uncompressed video up to 2K it is possible to adapt material of different resolution and colour room of 8 or 10 bits in original state on only one timeline. 8) Hagor: Expanded program for SHOWTECH

Besides the professional and established beamer racks Beamfix 1 and 2 (universal racks) the manufacturer from Bad Oeyenhausen presented some more innovations at the SHOWTECH. Particularly the lifting column Hubfix 1 is notable. Projectors and displays with 18mm/s can be extended and retracted at a maximal strain of 1000N. The lifting height is 400 mm wherefore the Hubfix 1 needs an installation height of 520mm. The Hubfix 1 is controlled via an infrared remote control. Besides the classical Beamfix 1+2 and the Hubfix 1 there were as well anti-theft device, plasma- and TFT racks and many more interesting products to gaze at in Berlin.

9) LangAV: NEC-Mitsubishi 40" LCD Display new in the program

After the successful start with the LCD 3000, the company LANG Audiovision AG had included the LCD 4000 of the manufacturer NEC-Mitsubishi in the rental- and distribution assortment. With the achieved screen diagonal of 40” the service provider considered it as an ideal product for all applications where plasma displays caused problems because of technical reasons. Presentations with longer image lifetime and high resolution (1280 x 768) are no longer a barricade, as the LCD displays do not possess the adverse “burn-in effect”. As comparisons by Lang have shown, the customer does not yet need to resign good image quality. The new product is available for rental- and prospective for Since some days.

10) NEC GT - high-performance projectors for 24h-permanent operations

NEC this spring presented products with a completely new feature, the first NEC-projectors in the world with two lamps. With an uninterrupted operation time of up to one year, both the GT5000 and the GT6000 are ideal for Point-of-Sale and Point-of-Information applications. Six different operating modes ensure that these professional  projectors really go the distance. The GT5000 has a brightness of 6000 ANSI lumens and XGA resolution and the GT6000 has an SXGA resolution and a brightness of 5100 ANSI lumens. These are the world’s first projectors to have two lamps that allow for six different operating modes. Depending on the area of application, the user decides whether one or both lamps are used for projection. The use of both lamps simultaneously is recommended in applications where the environment requires particularly bright images. If this is not absolutely necessary, the high scalability of the operating modes can increase the lamp life up to 9000 hours while at the same time cutting power consumption.

29) IC/TFC: Panel "Brand Position in Europe + North-America"

A new study of InterConnection Consulting Group in cooperation with TFC.net from the USA results that the brand is becoming more important from year to year on the projector market. At the same time it yet turned out that there is no mere projector image because other products of the manufacturer dominate too much and influence the brand. It appears that often even the market leaders are not associated with projectors: Epson and HP stand for printers, Canon for photography, Mitsubishi for cars and 3M for office equipment. Sanyo, Hitachi and NEC are considered as especially low-priced. Only on the second alignment you find clear attributes for projectors: Philips is accredited with a clear home cinema competence, Liesegang is for school projectors, Plus is known for its smallness and luminance and Toshibas installed cameras at first managed it to the USP and then to brand component.
