1)      Prolight + Sound: Event Goals Achieved In Full

The signs that this year's Prolight + Sound was going to be a success were evident from a very early stage: 766 exhibitors, an increase of 4.8 % over last year, presented their current product ranges from the fields of event & communication technology, audio-visual production and entertainment. And, with 26,487 visitors, the number of buyers taking advantage of this extensive product spectrum jumped by 20 % compared to the year before (2005: 22.003). Around a third of all trade visitors (9,029) came from outside Germany, especially from other European countries, such as the Benelux states (1,686), Austria (722), Switzerland (596), Sweden (408), Italy (393), Spain (387) and Great Britain (382). There was also an increase in the number of international trade visitors, in particular from Russia (286), the Ukraine (237), China (212), North Africa (136), the USA (92) and Australia (64). Evidence that it is also worth travelling a long way for Prolight + Sound is to be seen in the extremely good rating given by visitors: 97 % said they were satisfied with the results of their visit to the fair, an increase of 0.8 % on last year's already high level. Almost as many visitors (95 %) said they had achieved their goals for the fair. The bulk of exhibitors also gave a positive rating to the course of business at the fair: 80 % said they were satisfied in general and 87 % that they had achieved their objectives for the fair (2005: 82 %). Many also voiced their satisfaction with the number of trade visitors contacted (77 %) and the quality of these contacts (61 %) – hardly surprising given that around 59 % of visitors are from the middle and top managerial levels of their companies and have a correspondingly high level of decision-making authority. The next Prolight + Sound will be held in Frankfurt am Main from 28 to 31 March 2007, parallel to the Musikmesse. An important meeting place for the sector in Asia is Prolight + Sound Shanghai, which will take place from 18 to 21 October 2006.

3)      NEC Introduces New NP Projector Series

It is a well-known fact that nothing is more damaging to a projector lamp than turning it off too early during the cool-down phase. The new NP projectors from NEC are now here to solve that problem. The NP1000 and NP2000 projectors have a so-called “direct power-off function.” Thanks to a built-in energy storage feature, the device is sufficiently ventilated even after being separated from the outlet, protecting the lamp from damage. Impatient users can thus disassemble the projector immediately after holding a presentation without having to wait for the inconvenient cool-down phase. The NEC NP projectors will replace the MT predecessor models. Especially well-suited for permanent installation, these high-quality projectors offer numerous convincing features, optimized presentation quality and improved operability. The number of lenses, for example, was doubled from three to six. This permits an image ratio of between 0.8 and 7.0:1, thus offering far more flexible usage possibilities. The brightness of the NP1000 has been increased by 300 ANSI lumens to 3,500, guaranteeing brilliant colours.

4)      Mitsubishi’s HD4000 Projects without Dimming Lights

In late March, Mitsubishi Electric has introduced a new certified HD-ready projector with an excellent price-performance ratio, the HD4000. Thanks to its high level of brightness and contrast, the versatile unit delivers optimum image quality even without dimming lights. With its different individually adjustable picture formats, the HD4000 can be used virtually anywhere. It is not only a source of great entertainment at home, in restaurants and hotels; it also ensures trouble-free presentations for customers or staff. Brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens and contrast ratio of 2,500:1 make the HD4000 the perfect partner for home cinema, presentations or restaurants and hotels. The projector features a DarkChip2, with DDP3020 signal processing and high-speed LVDS, as well as BrilliantColor technology. This improves the colour intensity throughout the spectrum and ensures best-possible illumination of images and light density in the complementary colours. Its HDMI input port and WXGA resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels guarantee state-of-the art projection in outstanding quality.

5)      Toshiba: Wireless Projectors tw95 and tw100

Toshiba Projection & Display Technology (PDT) presents two wireless projectors designed specifically for business applications: tw95 und tw100. In addition to featuring Toshiba’s new “easy to use” concept and compact design, the DLP technology-based projectors deliver outstanding image quality thanks to their impressive brightness of 2,200 and 2,600 ANSI lumens respectively, their high 2,000:1 contrast and Toshiba’s newly optimized NCE II (Natural Colour Enhancer) chip for enhanced natural colour reproduction. Ease of operation is guaranteed by features including auto-focus, digital power zoom, keystone correction, wireless functionality and instant shutdown. Both models have password protection. Both the DLP-based projectors use a 0.55-inch DMD chip. The tw95 generates its 2,200 lumen brightness with a 210-watt lamp; while the tw100’s additional 400 lumens require a 275-watt lamp. In addition, the wireless LAN function (802.11b/g) enables both projectors to be used anywhere in the conference room, without messy and complicated cables.

23)  ISE 2007: Change of 2007 Show Dates

The organizers of ISE 2007 have announced that the show dates for the 2007 edition in Amsterdam have been moved back a week. ISE 2007 will now be held on Tuesday 30th January – Thursday 1st February 2007. The show will still take place at the Amsterdam RAI. It was becoming clear that an increasing number of exhibitors were having difficulties with the set dates because of other international events, particularly some in the United States. Exhibitor feedback, following research, was the major contributing factor, which influenced the ISE organizers to make this change. Mike Blackman, Managing Director ISE 2007 explains: “One of the key reasons why ISE has grown so rapidly over the last 4 years to become Europe’s largest trade show in this sector is through the total support and dedication of our Exhibitors and Sponsors. For commercial and logistical reasons, many of them were uncomfortable with the existing dates set and asked us investigate moving back to the original pattern of the last week of January/ first days of February. This was particularly so with many exhibitors who were finding it difficult to organize shipping and transportation of key equipment on the original show dates set. We value the significant contributions and support that we receive from our exhibitors.”
