NEC: Mini-Projector
LT170 Wins "Design Oscar"
The
portable projector LT170 from NEC has won an iF Gold Award in the
category "Product Design". There were 400 entries for this
category altogether. The “grip-it-and-go“ operation concept was
expressly mentioned. The jury also praised the design by Ricca
Tiztezuchi, Naoto Fukasawa Design. It comes especially to the fore
when the projector lens is hidden behind the projection guard. "
With the cuboid design of the LT 170 we have taken a completely new
direction in the projector market. We are delighted that our design
has been so well received ", Thomas Nedder, General Manager for
Professional Graphics, said about the award. The LT170 measures only
12 by 28 cm, is 8.5 cm high and can easily be held in one hand.

Kindermann,
the specialist for business and home projection, presented a world
premiere at the CeBIT - the KXD 100. The projector also boasts a
wireless 2.1-canal loudspeaker system and a TV tuner as an option.
With its 1300 ANSI lumens, XGA resolution and a contrast of 2000:1
this video-data projector provides the exceptional picture quality
which we have come to expect from DLP projectors and a colour
intensity which the double RGB colour wheel without white segment
makes possible. Together with the 1:1.2 Carl Zeiss zoom lens it always
gives you a perfect picture. The KXD 1000 weighs a mere 4.5 kg (incl.
DVD player) and with 30 dB is very quiet. The all-in-one projector
will be available from May.

The LP70+, which is now
available, follows in the footsteps of the dependable mobile
bestseller LP70. The most important improvement over its predecessor
is the increased brightness which now has 1,400 ANSI lumens as opposed
to 1,100 before. The XGA projector is also HDTV compatible. This
enormous increase in performance has not affected the price; the
recommended retail price of EUR 1,999 plus VAT stays the same. Its
compact construction means that this light (only 1.1k), robust LP70+
is perfect for use outside and in meeting rooms. The DLP projector has
an enormous 1,100:1 contrast ratio and is pleasantly quiet. The LP70+
can be adapted for wireless LAN – with the extremely easy to operate
module LiteShow.

From May 2004 HP presents its new
top model for companies, organisations, government offices, schools
and colleges, the HP Digital Projector XP8020. Among its main features
are crystal clear images, multiple connectivity and top user
convenience. Basically the new HP Digital Projector XP8020 is
comparable to the XP8010, but with 3.300 ANSI lumens has a much
greater brightness. Even in the worst lighting conditions it produces
optimal images. The XGA projector has an 800:1 contrast ratio and is
scalable to UXGA (1.600 x 1.200). As an option an advanced
connectivity module for the XP8000 series has been available from HP
since March 2004. By installing a wireless CF card the projector can
be controlled by wireless.

At
the CeBIT, Toshiba Professional Visual Products (PVP) introduced a new
projector in the performance class: the Toshiba T90. It has been
specially developed for use in business and thanks to its DLP
technology, XGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels) and 2000:1 contrast
with an extra sharp picture, it really stands out. A light output of
2000 ANSI lumens ensures the best picture quality even in poor light
conditions. With it various connection options, the T90 offers maximum
flexibility. The "Active Loop Mode" is new, an active
monitor output on the projector. The T90´s individual functions can
be easily operated with the remote control. The device will be
available from distributors and specialist stores from June 2004 and
the recommended price is 2,590.- euros (plus VAT).

For the first time Olympus is now
also offering projectors. The Olympus VP-1 is small, not much bigger
than a digital camera, light (only 1.1 k) and as a result is very
portable. It has an XGA resolution of 1024 x 768. This mini monster
comes with 1,000 ANSI lumens of brightness and a contrast of 2000:1.
In addition it uses Olympus lens technology and the Double Data Rate
(DDR) from Texas Instruments. The Olympus VP-1 projector was
introduced in the USA at the Consumer Electronics Show in January in
Las Vegas, along with the P-10 compact printer. Both devices are part
of the imaging solution that Olympus offers to its digital camera
users.

With the V3-131 the firm PLUS has
once again set new standards for the size of digital projectors: with
a height of just 35 mm, and a weight of just 1.1 k, the V3-131 is the
slimmest digital XGA projector in the world and just like the mobile
phone and the PDA will belong to the mobile presenter´s most useful
personal accessories. Despite its size the device is fitted with all
the technical fine points. With 1000 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio
of 2.000:1 the device has a superb output which is especially
noticeable with photos or video images. The integrated wide-angle lens
guarantees a large picture even at short distances. You can control
the length of your presentations with the presentation timer. And the
password protection also guards against unauthorised use.

In March BenQ reduced its projector
prices. It affects nearly all the devices from projectors for
beginners to professional data-video projectors. Ten models have gone
down by up to 20 percent compared with February. The reason: BenQ has
upped its production capacity in the factories in Taiwan and China
from 15,000 in 2003 to up to 35,000 this year. That enables the
manufacturer to pass on the savings to its customers. Here are a
couple of examples. The DLP projector BenQ PB8220 with a hefty 2200
ANSI lumens and a 2000:1 contrast now has the recommended retail price
of 1,999 euros incl. VAT (approx. 20 % reduction). The BenQ PB7220,
the one with a basic resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, a 2000:1
contrast and an ECO mode, now costs 2,249 euros (rrp. incl. VAT) and
is also about 20 percent cheaper. The BenQ PB6200 now costs about 15
percent less (rrp. 1,699 Euros incl. VAT). Seven further models have
had their prices reduced.

There are enough places where the
compact "GiG" can be used. The DLP projector EIP-10V is
multi-talented. Both a DVD player and a media card player are
integrated in the projector. The standard infrared boxes are also
included. The multimedia station weighs 4.5 k and is not only ideal
for schools and other educational establishments, the EIP-10V also
shows its strengths in office presentations. It also offers
considerable advantages to home cinema fans. The built-in DVD player
supports many of the current playback sources. It has a 1700 ANSI
lumens light output and a 2000:1 contrast. The XGA resolution is
1024:768 pixels and 16.7 million colours can be projected. It will be
available from the middle of April and should cost about 2,990.- euros
plus VAT.

The
latest member of the Solid series from Liesegang, the new Solid Cinema
features an LCD panel with a real 16:9 resolution from 854 x 480
pixels. As a result the projector can be highly recommended for use in
home cinemas, as the current wide-screen format 16:9 is available here
without the customary frame. It has a high, cinema standard 900:1
contrast and 900 ANSI lumens brightness. The low noise level operation
of 31 bD can be reduced even more with the "whisper" mode
and goes right down to 27 dB. For straightening the picture it has of
course a Keystone corrector and a 1.2x optical zoom and four-power
digital enlargement. The Solid Cinema should be available in the shops
from June 2004 for a recommended retail price of 1,499.- euros (incl.
VAT).

Projectiondesign presents its new
16:9 projector model "zero one" and "zero five" at
the CeBIT. Both projectors have been optimised for high quality home
cinema demands and are based on Texas Instruments´ DLP technology.
While the "zero five", with a resolution of 1024 x 576,
treats you to a continuously variable brightness of 500-900 ANSI
lumens (lamp life < 3000 hours) and a contrast of 2300:1, its big
brother "zero one" outdoes even this with a resolution of
1280 x 720 at 600-1200 ANSI lumens (lamp life < 4000 hours) and a
3000:1 contrast ratio. To improve the picture signal both projectors
use the DCDi picture technology from Faroudja, are DVI-D compatible
and with only 28 dB also extremely quiet. The distributor for Germany
is the firm WS-Spalluto.

The Hitachi Digital Media Group
allowed journalists at the CeBIT a first look at the extended home
cinema projector series. Hatachi presented for the first time an
absolutely red-hot item - the brand new PJ-LC5 which belongs in the
lower price segment. The PJ-LC5 is exceptionally good value for money:
with three 0.55 inch LCD panels it achieves a light output of 1200
ANSI lumens, at an operating noise level of a mere 28dB (in whisper
mode). Hitachi´s Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan technology
guarantees the quality and non-flickering image of a more expensive
model. Flexible connection and installation options mean you can set
it to suit your individual needs exactly. This makes the PJ-LC5 ideal
for game consoles, digital receivers, surfing in the Internet or just
for total enjoyment of the latest cinema hits. The PJ-LC5 will be
available in specialist stores from April for 999.- euros (rrp.) incl.
VAT.

data-video projector EMP-735 is an innovative highlight. It has a
wireless-LAN card and a socket for a PCMCIA card. The XGA projector

One of the highlights at the
ProLight + Sound was presented by publitec - the new Sanyo HD-10 HDTV
projector. The HD-10 is the first LCD projector in the world to
provide a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and as a result is
compatible with the most widely spread HDTV standards. With a light
output of 6000 ANSI lumens and nine lens options the HD-10 projector
is ideal for use in events which have the highest demands for picture
quality. There are also a few interesting applications to see at the
stand: for example projection on crooked uneven surfaces, creating
cheap panoramas with small LCD projectors and external soft-edge
processing or the manufacture of multi-screen displays with the
appropriate software tools.

revolution in presentations. With the multifunctional camera system

The G-LEC LightFrame was being
previewed by G-LEC Europe at ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt, Germany.
Following the footsteps of its big brother the ClassicFrame, which has
been making waves on stages, TV studios and at events around the world,
the LightFrame is the affordable transparent LED graphics display
