Light Philips introduces a range of new flat TVs,
which have all been equipped with the Ambi-Light-Technology for the

33) Kramer VA-256 Audio Delay: Matching Audio to
Video with no Delay With today´s fixed resolution
monitors and projectors based on technologies such as plasma and
LCD, there is a lot of scaling going on to match incoming signal
resolutions to those of the displays. All that processing slows down
the throughput of the video signal and leads to audio and video sync
problems. The Kramer VA-256 audio delay from the Kramer TOOLS line
of product solutions is the perfect compliment to the line of Kramer
ProScale™ Digital Scaler/Switchers. It provides a user programmable
delay ranging from 10 milliseconds to 2.5 seconds in increments of
10 milliseconds. High quality anti-aliasing and output smoothing

The initial results of the AVP online survey “Private”
illustrate the following: more than a quarter of all surveyed own
projectors (25.5 %). New flat-screens come in at the end of the

an interest in buying a plasma TV. Projectors are still the
favourite technology with 42 percent voicing an interest, closely
followed by plasma TVs with 31 percent and LCD TVs with 24.8
percent. The analysis of the “Business” category concluded that 67
percent of all company are already deploying older devices, only
31.6 percent are first-time projector buyers. More than half of
those interviewed (55.3 %) state that projectors are in operation
for more than five hours a week, while 36 percent confirm that their

be increased. 58 percent of a total of 60,000 visitors were traders,
importers and professional users in 2003. The range includes imaging
technology and communications for the Chinese market as well as all
fields of analogue and digital photography. The Chinese photo market
is displaying great potential for digital photography. GfK estimates
that 4.992 million cameras were sold in China in 2003. This figure
was down 0.3 percent compared to 2002, but this decrease can be

53) Total Success: didacta 2004 The
education fair didacta closed its doors after five days and
successful results for all 811 involved exhibitors from 14
countries. Including conservative estimates for the last day of the
trade fair approx. 90,000 visitors were counted, up by 80 percent
compared to the 2003 show in Nuremberg. The fair also registered a
significant increase in the quality of its visitors, which is a
vital point for exhibitors. All relevant specialist visitor target
groups were reached and new contacts made. A preliminary visitor
analysis illustrates that approx. 96 percent of those surveyed
attended the fair for professional reasons. Almost all visitors were
satisfied with what was on offer, while a third expressed that they
were thrilled by the scope and quality of didacta’s product and
service range. Providers of educational hardware and software
solutions detected a large number of young teaching professionals,
who were particularly interested in deploying electronic media to
convey knowledge. Cologne turned out to be an ideal location for

54) IC-Study: Projector Distribution
The new InterConnection distribution study has been published.
According to the study retailers are forecasting a positive sales
development for 2004 (+14.5 %) and falling prices (-9.6 %).
Cooperation with manufacturers is viewed critical in parts. The AV
channel is the strongest sales channel in the projector business. IT
retailers and consumer electronics chain stores are going to win
markets share based on the home cinema boom. Margins are subject to
significant differences: 17 percent in Northern Europe, 11 percent
in Germany driven by tough POS competition. Retail listings are 2.2
on average in Spain, while 6 brands are listed in Germany. Listing
new brands has become more difficult than listing “old friends”.
Retailer’s brand satisfaction is driven by technical quality,
delivery times, margins and service levels. Delivery times of
incumbent “big players” are marked weaker than those new entrants.
The study also identified factors influencing customer demand.
“Usability” has become users’ war cry as they are frequently
dissatisfied with projectors’ operation features. Improved after-
sales service is being demanded. More:

55) BVV: Annual Figures of Video Industry
The national association of audio-visual media BVV has disclosed
key economic figures for the video industry in 2003. According to
GfK Panel Services Consumer Research GmbH the home entertainment
industry saw record earnings in 2003, as in the three years
preceding. Sales and rentals of audio-visual systems generated €
1.555 bn, which is an 11 percent increase compared to the € 1.4
billion generated in 2002. Overall market revenues generated in the
home entertainment segment dwarf box office revenues for the same
period (€ 850 million according to the film promotion association
FFA) by +83 percent and once again confirm the fact that the DVD and
video cassette business is the biggest revenue spinner in the film
rights business. The figures supplied by the sales market are
particularly impressive and show that the sale of digital film
storage and conventional video cassettes increased by 20.4 percent
from € 1,040.8 in 2002 to € 1,253 million in 2003. DVD sales
revenues jumped by 47.7 percent to € 1,053.3, while the sale of VHS
cassettes dropped by 39.1 percent to € 199.6 million. DVDs accounted
for 84.1 percent of all sales revenues and 75.5 percent of all 84.9
million units. The video rental industry is judging the situation as
adverse due to the proliferation of pirated copies. More:

PWM-Outputs Micronas, a leading supplier of innovative
application-specific IC system solutions for consumer electronics
and automotive electronics, announced that the latest-generation
single-chip TV Audio processors of the MSP 46xyK family are now
available with pulse width modulation (PWM) audio outputs. The PWM
output was especially integrated for connecting the MSP 46xyK to
switched-mode class D audio amplifiers. Driven by Micronas
"Hi-Resolution PWM" signals, switched class D amplifiers offer a
range of advantages over the traditional linear class AB type
devices. With an efficiency of up to 95 percent, they significantly
reduce heat dissipation and eliminate the need for heatsinks. The TV
set´s power supply can be designed smaller because less energy is
wasted in the audio amplifier. This translates into cheaper and more
lightweight designs, paving the way for cost-effective and
attractively designed flat-panel TVs. It is available in MSP 46xyK
products license free. MSP 46xyK is the only single-chip TV Audio
solution with integrated PWM signal generation, eliminating the need

| - P&A: SilverFabric Filters for Christie
3D-Projectors Under the name of "SilverFabric Filters"
Porrmann & Awater have released a new revolutionary filter
technology for passive 3-D projection based on LCD technology. The
„SilverFabric Filters“ are exactly tuned to the LCD prism of the
Vivid series, which is manufactured by Christie Digital Systems. Due
to the transmission rate of 70% the double amount of light output
compared to a standard polarized filter is usable. Hence, the use of
„low light“ projectors is even possible in a mobile high-quality LCD
3-D stacked system. Moreover, the color is uniform and common
problem of coloured stains is eliminated completely: for the first
time, the “SilverFabric Filters” allow for a 3-D projection, in
which colors are true similarly to those in a non-filtered LCD
projection. The „SilverFabric Filters“ are currently available
directly at Porrmann & Awater. More:
