Bildungsmesse, Nürnberg (March 31st - April 4th)

We will cover the news on the largest trade fair in the education branch in this Newsletter and also in the next German one, which will be issued on march 31st. CeBIT, half way mark - Hannover (march 12th-march 19th )

During the first four days the world’s biggest computer and technology exhibition, CeBIT in Hannover, had fewer visitors than the year before. Until Saturday more than 300,000 visitors from more than 100 countries was counted by the Deutsche Messe AG, 12 per cent less than last year. Nevertheless, „the CeBIT is a success regardless of the number of exhibitors and visitors“, said exhibition manager Raue. The proportion of professionally interested visitors was more than 90 per cent – like the previous year. „Especially the number of European visitors has grown in comparison to 2002“, said Raue.

An increase has also been registered in the number of visitors and guests from other European countries – from 56,400 in 2002 to 62,100. The number of visitors and guests from Eastern Europe has risen clearly in both absolute as well as relative terms. 12,800 visitors and guests have so far come from Eastern Europe compared with 9,900 in 2002. This region thus accounts for 15.8 percent of all foreign visitors (11.8 percent in 2002). CeBIT would seem to be more attractive for SMEs than in the past. 62.6 percent (60.4% in 2002) of all the professional visitors at CeBIT are employed with small or medium-sized companies with a maximum of 500 employees.

5) A+K: AstroBeam S130 - DLP-projector for leisure time and business

The Anders+Kern Präsentationssysteme GmbH & Co. KG broadens its offering of its private brand A+K AstroBeam in the data-/ videoprojector area with the new model S130. This mobile DLP-projector with SVGA resolution connects job and leisure time in a perfect way – and all that for a very low price! Everyone who wants to use the light (only 3,1 kg) and very silent (only 37 dB) A+K AstroBeam S130 as a tool for work will highly appreciate its monitor output as well as the extremely high contrast ratio of 2000:1 and the high brightness of 1000 ANSI lumens. The outstanding video quality in 4:3 / / 16:9 makes it perfect for the application at home. 6) Toshiba: D1+D2 lightweights in retro design

At the CeBIT the Toshiba business area Professional Visual Products brings a new line-up of DLP-products on the market. From now on, the two models D1 and D2 will complement the product portfolio of Toshiba in the “mobile class”. With a weight of only 2,4 kg, a light performance of 2.000 (D1) and 2.500 ANSI lumens (D2) and a contrast ratio of 800:1, both new devices are perfect for the mobile application and the video conference area. Both projectors can present images with diagonals between 0,9 and 5 metres. Because of the automatic signal identification the complicated choosing of the right entry source is not necessary anymore. The D1 and the D2 also provide an ECO-mode like most of the Toshiba data- and videoprojectors that reduces the heavy duty of the projection lamp and that lowers the operating noise. Because of the possibility to play-back an additional image across the monitor output, the new projectors are ideal for the application in schools or other educational facilities. Both projectors are available from March onwards via distributors or specialized trade.

The NEC projector LT260 wins the iF-design award 2003 – an internationally acknowledged price of the iF Industry Forum Design Hannover e.V. - that is donated every year at the CeBIT. This  award is a convincing sales argument because the design of an device gains more and more importance concerning the buying decision. The flowing forms, rounded edges of the object and the silver shimmering chassis of the LT260 were the reasons for the jury’s decision that consists of international first class-designers.

11) PLUS: U4-series - 1500 ANSI-lumens in the 1,5 kg-class

In February the PLUS Vision Corp. presented its new DLP-projectors of the U4-series in Japan. The new projectors have 1.500 ANSI lumens and are 1,5 times brighter and have a  contrast ratio of 1500:1 that makes them two times more powerful than the U3-series. So the projectors U4-131 (XGA), U4-111 (SVGA) are the most high performance mobile business-projectors of the 1,5 kg class. The U4-series is an upgrade of the U3-series – the most sold projector series ever - with over 100.000 units. The new generation of DMD-chips by Texas Instruments, a revised design, better optics and a lot more of improvements distinguish the new projectors. The U4-projectors support “short-focus-lens” and therefore make a projection of a 60” image with only 2 m distance possible. The Eco-Mode allows projections with 80% of the normal brightness. The projectors support the DVI- standard and also digital Hi-Definition broadcast signals (720p, 1080i). Both new projectors are available over the specialized trade.

31) InfoComm Europe 2003 will take place as planned

„The InfoComm Europe will take place from November 19 to November 21 2003 in Cologne“, as Bernd Aufderheide, general manager Koelnmesse, has announced this week. The plans of ending the cooperation with ICIA, International Communications Industries Association, Inc., do not affect the realization of the event in 2003. „It’s a pity that we will not work together any more in 2004“, says Aufderheide. Nevertheless, Koelnmesse has the know-how and the competence (as a organizer of photokina) in the branch of visual communications to be able to present a professional and future oriented concept in the future. After 2003 the Koelnmesse will continue the event under a different name but stick to the idea of providing an annual business forum to the international AV branch. To this year’s InfoComm Europe the organizer expects more than 200 exhibitors from over 20 countries.
