products. Beside the brand-new DLP home cinema projector PE 8700 (q.v. AVP-N. 9/03), Ben Q also presents a new
plasma screen. The HDTV compatible plasma display BenQ PDP46W1 combines a
cool, slender design with a huge 46” diagonal. Beside a contrast ratio of 850:1
it provides a brightness of 700 cd/m². The video optimised format 16:9

5) A+K: AstroBeam S130 - DLP-projector for leisure time and
business
The
Anders+Kern Präsentationssysteme GmbH & Co. KG broadens its offering of
its private brand A+K AstroBeam in the data-/ videoprojector area with the
new model S130. This mobile DLP-projector with SVGA resolution connects job
and leisure time in a perfect way – and all that for a very low price!
Everyone who wants to use the light (only 3,1 kg) and very silent (only 37
dB) A+K AstroBeam S130 as a tool for work will highly appreciate its monitor
output as well as the extremely high contrast ratio of 2000:1 and the high
brightness of 1000 ANSI lumens. The outstanding video quality in 4:3 / / 16:9
makes it perfect for the application at home. This can be achieved because of
the DCDi-technology by Faroudja that provide sharp images and a very natural
color performance.

6) Toshiba: D1+D2 lightweights in retro design
At the CeBIT the Toshiba business
area Professional Visual Products brings a new line-up of DLP-products on the
market. From now on, the two models D1 and D2 will complement the product
portfolio of Toshiba in the “mobile class”. With a weight of only 2,4 kg, a
light performance of 2.000 (D1) and 2.500 ANSI lumens (D2) and a contrast
ratio of 800:1, both new devices are perfect for the mobile application and
the video conference area. Both projectors can present images with diagonals
between 0,9 and 5 metres. Because of the automatic signal identification the
complicated choosing of the right entry source is not necessary anymore. The
D1 and the D2 also provide an ECO-mode like most of the Toshiba data- and
videoprojectors that reduces the heavy duty of the projection lamp and that
lowers the operating noise. Because of the possibility to play-back an
additional image across the monitor output, the new projectors are ideal for
the application in schools or other educational facilities. Both projectors
are available from March onwards via distributors or specialized trade.

The NEC
projector LT260 wins the iF-design award 2003 – an internationally
acknowledged price of the iF Industry Forum Design Hannover e.V. - that is
donated every year at the CeBIT. This
award is a convincing sales argument because the design of an device gains
more and more importance concerning the buying decision. The flowing forms,
rounded edges of the object and the silver shimmering chassis of the LT260
were the reasons for the jury’s decision that consists of international first
class-designers.

Now CTX also
gets into the Plasma Display market. At the CeBIT the manufacturer presents a
gigantic 46” model. A very modern, almost avangardistic chassis that gives
very room an elegant touch – that is a matter of course with such a product.
The CTX is equipped with a visible screen diagonal of 46”. More technical
data include: a contrast ratio of 800:1 and a luminance of 700 cd/m². The
16,7 presentable colors, the ultra fine pixel pitch and a 160° angle
guarantee brilliant performances and create a real movie-feeling in every
living room in a 16:9 format. The display can present images in XGA
resolution – silent and absolutely flicker free. Extensive connection
possibilities offer a flexible usage.

models PT-LC56E (SVGA) and PT-LC76E (XGA) shine in the new design of the
Panasonic projector line-up, have lost their weight and just weigh a little
more than 2 kg. The devices will have probably 1.500 resp. 1.300 ANSI lumens
and a contrast ratio of 400:1. The operating noise will be under 28 dB. They
are equipped with a vertical trapezoidal correction and can be used in saving
mode (lamp-life up to 3.000 hours). Moreover they are equipped with the
“Digital Cinema Reality” technology – like projectors from the home cinema
area – and are perfect for the application at home. The models will be

10) Sony: „Say cheese“! VPL-CX5 + digital camera
Sony makes its
customers happy. If a customer buys a VPL-CX5 projector he or she will get
Sony’s latest stroke of genius – the digital camera Cyber-shot U10 – for
free! The ultra portable projector VPL-CX5 convinces not only because of its
noble design - for which the projector received the IF-Design Award 2003 -
but also because of its inner values. It features a XGA-resolution and the
impressive light power of 2.000 ANSI-Lumen. A real highlight is the memory
stick function that makes a perfect connection with other devices possible,
e. g. with the Sony digital camera Cyber-shot U10. The noble and highly compact digital camera weighs just 113 g
and is equipped with 1,3 mega pixel. The Sony-Bundle operation will count as

11) PLUS: U4-series - 1500 ANSI-lumens in the
1,5 kg-class
In February
the PLUS Vision Corp. presented its new DLP-projectors of the U4-series in
Japan. The new projectors have 1.500 ANSI lumens and are 1,5 times brighter
and have a contrast ratio of 1500:1
that makes them two times more powerful than the U3-series. So the projectors
U4-131 (XGA), U4-111 (SVGA) are the most high performance mobile
business-projectors of the 1,5 kg class. The U4-series is an upgrade of the
U3-series – the most sold projector series ever - with over 100.000 units.
The new generation of DMD-chips by Texas Instruments, a revised design,
better optics and a lot more of improvements distinguish the new projectors.
The U4-projectors support “short-focus-lens” and therefore make a projection
of a 60” image with only 2 m distance possible. The Eco-Mode allows
projections with 80% of the normal brightness. The projectors support the
DVI- standard and also digital Hi-Definition broadcast signals (720p, 1080i).
Both new projectors are available over the specialized trade.

real movie-atmosphere at home. For the mobile presentation the AmPro LCD 4200

13) Philips: bSure Brilliance – the new generation
Philips broadens its price winning bSure projector-range by two new

high performance and reliable devices are the first choice for sophisticated
customers in big companies and educational facilities. The projectors support
PS/2 Mouse-Loop Through for the control of the mouse cursor by the remote
control. The Monitor-Loop-Through is of advantage for teachers and speakers
because they don’t have to show their backs to the audience anymore to see
the projected images. The bSure Brilliance series has also new functions that
are especially interesting for companies. A remote control with a laser
pointer belongs to the standard

27) NEC-Mitsubishi: "Quality is

NEC-Mitsubishi
Electronics Display offers a lot of new products to offer at this year’s
CeBIT. The highlight at the booth of the monitor-manufacturer is the new NEC
LCD4000 – a 40” presentation-display for the performance of static and moving
information. With the presentation of its first big-format
presentation-LCD-device – the NEC LCD3000 in autumn of 2002, NEC did the
first step into this growing market segment. Information-displays make
everybody much easier in many ways and sometimes we aren’t really aware of this
fact. E.g. most people who go on holiday get the information about the right
arrival and departure time with the help of such displays. The application
possibilities are never-ending and will become more manifold in future.
Especially for this market segment NEC-Mitsubishi has developed its new 30-

to bring LCD-screens of this size on the market. The information displays NEC
