It features a telescopic pointer, operated like a wireless mouse, and with it the lecturer can present the information to the audience directly in front of the projection area and can control the presentation without needing cables. This is made possible by a new kind of technology which combines an integrated VGA camera in the projector with the pointer which is fitted with an infra-red transmitter. No special preparation for the presentation is necessary – any screen or even a white wall can be used. The only requirement is a USB 2.0 socket which every current PC and notebook has.

19)  Gefen: The new Gefen HD Mate Scaler

Connectivity solutions provider Gefen announced the latest addition to its growing line of cost-effective scalers for the home or business. The Gefen HD Mate Scaler offers much-needed functionality when combining different standard and high definition video sources and outputting each to the single connector on any DVI display. Essentially it performs three separate tasks: it integrates different video formats and converts them to DVI; it scales video up and down in all HD resolutions; and it enables access to three sources using one display so you don't have to unplug sources. Everything is connected all the time. The plug and play unit comes equipped with one DVI and two component video inputs, supplemented by digital TOSlink audio and RCA audio inputs. It supplies a single DVI output, with audio output in digital or analog formats, depending on the audio/video source selected. Video is delivered in a pure digital format, with HD video scaling offered in resolutions ranging from 480i to 1080p for the most vivid imagery possible. The unit works with all DVI sources and displays, including cross-platform computer systems such as Apple's line of HD DVI displays, making it a key solution for any integrated digital video system. The HD Mate Scaler's source switching capability is controlled through the unit's IR remote, giving you access to any one of the three sources within seconds.

20)  RGB Spectrum: Integrated Control System with KvM

RGB Spectrum announces the new Integrated Control System with KvM for it's MediaWall® line of wall display processors, combining in a single application control of the wall processor and the computers displayed. The MediaWall processor outputs computer and video signals in windows on a display wall. An on-source cursor provides "drag and drop" control of the position of windows, their scaling and priority. Adding control of the source computers creates a giant "Multi-window Desktop", a control system that seamlessly moves between wall control and computer control. RGB Spectrum has developed a novel solution which it styles KvM. Unlike traditional KvM over IP or Cat5, RGB Spectrum offers a hybrid solution, with video provided by direct-connect (DVI or RGB) to the display controller, guaranteeing real-time performance. Remote keyboard and mouse functions are over IP. There is no strain on the network since bandwidth requirements are minimal. The result is a unified display space where one or more users can control the wall as well as the source computers displayed on it with a single mouse. The computers and the video wall processor are interconnected over an IP network. A custom keyboard/mouse agent is installed on each of the source computers. At the heart of the solution is RGB Spectrum's Web Control Panel (WCP), the intuitive set-up and control application used to operate the MediaWall display processor and is accessible via a web browser. The system offers single-mouse control with two modes of cursor operation - system mode for video wall operation and source computer mode for control of the remote PCs. The user switches between modes simply by clicking on the mouse. Once the WCP is launched and connections to the remote source computers are established, the on-screen cursor easily shifts between modes.

Since then COMM-TEC has had a large influence in driving forward the development of media technology and solutions for complete use and operating concepts in building technology in the European market. During its 20 years' existence COMM-TEC has been through highs and lows and has developed into a market leader for media technology distribution. Having started off in a small office in Plochingen with three employees, the firm now has its headquarters in Stuttgart and has branches in Spain, England and Italy. With its sales representatives in other important countries in Europe COMM-TEC now employs around 120 people. The anniversary has already been fittingly heralded in the framework of a two-day outing for the staff.  Like the market, COMM-TEC’s portfolio has also changed over the years. Where COMM-TEC was originally involved in selling classical AV slide products and till the last the exclusive distributor for Kodak projectors, today leading manufacturers and trendsetting technological brands belong to COMM-TEC’s exclusive distribution programme.

30)  4th International Media Festival from 23rd – 25th March 2007

This exciting and interesting show programme has something for everyone. 667 entries (computer animations, HDAV productions, videos, HD videos, 35mm films etc.) have been sent in to this year’s media festival. The audio-visual productions will be shown on an 18 x 5 m (90 square metre projection area) large screen in high definition with three digital high performance projectors with a total resolution of almost 4000 pixel width (double the HDTV resolution). They are particularly proud of the wide variety of HDAV productions:  from one screen productions to multimedia panorama projections with a height to width ratio of 3.5:1. At the 1st Media Festival in 2001 digital and analogue productions were shown, this year however only digital productions will be presented.  The direction the trends were moving was recognised back then and has been continued consistently with high resolution panorama projections.  Along with interesting and exciting show programmes, the International Media festival will also be hosting workshops on the subject of media, software and projection on the Friday and Saturday. For the “salt” in the “media soup” there is the informative Media Exhibition in the foyer. Well-known firms like Adobe Systems, AV Stumpfl, Canon, Hewlett-Packard, JVC Professional, Leica, Thomson, Wacom and more will be presenting their latest products, media concepts and technology at the Media Exhibition. Passes for the festival and single tickets for the individual show blocks, workshops and the supporting programme are available online from www.medienfestival.net.
