2)      CeBIT 2007: 15 to 21 March in Hannover, Germany

CeBIT has long been and continues to be the major marketplace for the ICT industry worldwide. When it opens its doors again in Hannover from 15 to 21 March 2007, users from across the globe will flock to see the latest digital solutions. As Ernst Raue, Managing Board Member of Deutsche Messe, emphasizes, 'CeBIT mirrors the latest trends in the digital world and once a year makes Hannover the meeting-place for all those who feel at home in this digital world and who contribute to its further development'. The fact that visitors can easily find their way around, despite the large number of exhibitors, is due to the clear thematic arrangement of exhibits in six categories: 'Business Processes', 'Communications', 'Digital Equipment & Systems', 'Banking & Finance', 'Public Sector Parc' and 'Future Parc'. The highly international mix of exhibitors taking part in CeBIT is impressive. In 2007 approx. 6,000 exhibitors from 70 countries will attend. Ernst Raue admits: 'This figure is lower than in 2006, but it still exceeds our target. The emergence of strategic corporate alliances and mergers has meant that a high double-digit number of companies who used to exhibit separately a year or two ago are now staging joint displays.'

4)      ISE 2007: Attendance figure of 16,269

Records were broken in every area as Integrated Systems Europe 2007 closed after three days of huge crowds, packed conference rooms and exhibitors reporting their busiest show yet, announced the organisers of ISE 2007 at the Amsterdam RAI. The 4th edition of this show saw an unprecedented increase in numbers with over 16,000 attending. Although there was a significant swell of attendees from Europe, visitors came from all parts of the world, including China, Japan and the United States. A key aspect of the show was the positive response from the visitors and Exhibitors alike. Many of the exhibitors were firm in the opinion that they would definitely be returning for the next edition of ISE. Plans are well underway to organise the 2008 edition, which, as Mike Blackman, Managing Director ISE explains, will again be held at the Amsterdam RAI from 29-31 January. "ISE 2007 has been an outstanding success and the huge rise in visitor numbers has prompted an overwhelming response from exhibitors to rebook their booths for next year. Because of this, we have already secured an extra hall at the RAI, ensuring that ISE 2008 is set to be even bigger than this year's event. Almost without exception, everyone has commented favourably on the RAI as a venue which, due to its close proximity to Schiphol airport and major transport routes, is easy to access."

5)      Toshiba PDT: projector for educational institutions

Toshiba presents the st10, a new addition to its “Extreme Short Projection” family that is designed to function with interactive whiteboards. While the Toshiba st10 targets the educational sector, it is also ideal for business use. The revolutionary wide-angle lens enables the projector to be mounted immediately above the whiteboard, avoiding both shadows on the board and dazzling the lecturer or presenter. An anti-theft feature is the st10’s special control panel without visible power button; the projector can also be enclosed in a special security cage. The st10 is fully optimized for use with interactive whiteboards. In talks or lectures, these boards are connected to a PC and projector to form a multimedia board used with special pens. The st10 requires only a D-sub15 input for the PC and is operated using a control panel, which can also be wall-mounted. This panel is designed for complete simplicity, allowing the projector and board to be powered up or down simultaneously at the touch of a button. Not all ceilings may be the right material or height for projector mounting; the st10 can therefore be used with a flexible wall bracket, developed for use with a variety of whiteboards, permitting simple and low-cost installation. A further highlight: from now on the projectors can be mounted on the ceiling. The extremely flat business beamers are therefore the optimal addition to conference rooms with fitted equipment. Perfect design and maximum performance: the CASIO projectors are equipped with the unique 2x optical zoom lens. This also offers a great deal of flexibility when mounted on the ceiling. In addition to being able to conduct a presentation without a PC, CASIO's typical operating comfort of the Super Slim projectors provides easy application. 13)  PROJECTA: “Concealed-in-the-ceiling” electric screens

The Advantage electrol and Advantage Deluxe electrol are two “concealed-in-the-ceiling” electric screens designed with the installer in mind. Both new screens meet the demands of business rooms, educational institutions, hospitality venues and home theatre applications in the case where the elegance and simplicity of “concealed-in-the-ceiling” electric screens are desired. Installers will appreciate the possibility to install the fabric and roller assembly after the case (ensuring the screen fabric remains un-damaged during case installation). 14)  3M: New Display Film and Super Close Projection Systems at ISE

3M launched its revolutionary Vikuiti™ Rear Projection Film at Integrated Systems Europe 2007. The flexible, easy to apply film enables video, static images and dynamic messaging to be projected directly onto windows and glass surfaces or partitions, becoming the centre of attraction in any high street or shopping mall. A range of digital wall displays and interactive whiteboards were also on show with the brand new Digital Media System 700 and 800 Series, featuring Vikuiti Super Close Projection from 3M. The Vikuiti films can be cut to any shape or size, and can be applied directly onto glass surfaces. This overcomes poor visibility issues by reducing the number of reflective surfaces and displaying strong, brightly coloured images, with the highest black/white contrast ratios, and excellent levels of definition, to viewers watching from the other side of the glass. All this, combined with 180 degree viewing angles, makes the display ideal for any application where images need to be seen either close to or from a distance. Visitors to the stand saw these eye-catching Vikuiti Rear Projection Films running 3M Digital Signage software. 3M’s software provides advanced content and network management functionality for networks of any size. Organisations are given central control of their marketing content delivery, with the ability to change or update messages dynamically, and even to deliver different messages at different times of day to address the changing audience profile. The software is compatible with popular multimedia file formats and offers the ability to divide screens into multiple content ‘zones’ as well as the easy incorporation of live data feeds such as weather or news reports. 3M has shown also preview key additions to its line of digital products for enhanced visual communications in classrooms, boardrooms, meeting rooms, small office, home office or living rooms. Based on the pioneering Vikuiti Super Close Projection optical lens technology, the new products enable delivery of exceptionally large, sharp images from very close to the screen.

18)  NEC: New High definition display series

NEC has renewed its plasma product portfolio. The portfolio includes the XM series for business users and the XR series for consumers. The new NEC plasma displays have improved image quality and lower power consumption than their predecessors. The XR series models for high-end home cinema applications and design-oriented business users are available with a 42-inch screen diagonal in XGA resolution and with 50 and 60-inch screens in WXGA resolution. The special features of the XR series include dynamic contrast adjustment, which automatically ensures extra-high contrast in very dark or light environments, and the AMX Café Duet Protocol for interactive media, household technology and presentation PC connections. Weight has been considerably reduced, especially in the NEC 50XR6, which weighs nine kilograms less than the predecessor model. This is due to the use of a bonded colour filter instead of a glass filter. Power consumption in all models has been reduced by 20 percent, partly because they have integrated auto luminance management which automatically reduces luminance in stationary images. New panels in 50XR6 and 60XR5 enable even higher image quality. Better colour fidelity, more brightness, finer grey scale display and higher contrast deliver more realistic and detailed images. The integrated Clear Drive System prevents false contour effects. The XR series offers diverse connection options, including two HDMI interfaces. The NEC 42XM5, NEC 50XM5 and NEC 60XM6 high-end monitors have the majority of features incorporated in the XR models, but they are mainly oriented on professional business users, such as TV studios, trade fair exhibitors, banks and hospitals. In addition to their business-friendly design, the XM models also differ from consumer models because they weigh more and have interfaces that are oriented on business needs. For example, the XM plasmas have a DVI-D interface, plus component video and analogue video connections via BNC cable. Like the XR series, the XM models' factory guarantee can be extended by a further year to three years. CeBIT: Halle 2, Stand B24

22)  RBG Spectrum: Making a "Videowall" with the Sony SXRD Projector

Recently, RGB Spectrum's Don Day, Senior Design Engineer, tested the MediaWall 2000 with the Sony SRDX-R110 projector. The testing was performed at Sony's projector lab in San Jose, California. According to Don, "The projector produces an impressive, bright image and the MediaWall delivers a seamless 3840x2160 combined input to the projector." He adds, "The tiling of four output images was flawless, and in a precise 16:9 aspect ratio." What Don observed was a stunning 27-foot single projector 12-window display wall. The MediaWall output configuration is the standard "plug and play" 1920x1080 DVI timing and did not require any special adjustments. The combination of the MediaWall 2000 and the Sony SRX projectors deliver a unique set of benefits. A display wall that would have required four edge blended premium projectors is accomplished with one projector. Maintenance cost is reduced by 75%. If more windows are needed, the MediaWall 2500 accepts up to 8 computer and 8 video sources simultaneously.

Extron Electronics has introduced the ISM 824, a modular, multiswitcher that allows for simultaneous scaling and wideband switching in a single, compact enclosure. It combines the powerful signal routing capabilities of an eight input, wideband matrix switcher with versatility of four customizable outputs. The Extron ISM 824 can be equipped with any of the available scaling or scan conversion output boards for initial project requirements, and then upgraded at any time in the future with additional boards as system needs evolve and expand. It is ideal for applications such as highend boardrooms, classrooms, and auditoriums that require cost-effective signal routing with flexible, on-board signal processing. Five output expansion boards are available for the ISM 824 with the same advanced video processing technologies employed in Extron scalers, signal processors, and scan converters. The Universal Scaler Output Board features high performance RGB and video scaling, with high quality upconversion and downconversion of high resolution RGB signals at up to UXGA (1600x1200) as well as HDTV 1080p. The Video Scaler Output Board scales standard definition composite video and S-video signals up to SXGA+ (1400x1050) or HDTV resolutions up to 1080p. The Scan Converter Output Board delivers an optimized, scan-converted video output from high resolution computer-video sources. Finally, Single and Dual Output Wideband Boards are available for additional matrix switcher outputs. As a matrix switcher, the ISM 824 is similar in performance to Extron's popular CrossPoint 450 Plus Series, with eight fully-configurable inputs which accept RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB, HDTV, component video, S-video, and composite video. It also includes key features such as ADSP™ - Advanced Digital Sync Processing, DVSP™ - Digital Sync Validation Processing, and audio output volume control. All features and functions of the ISM 824, including those of any installed output boards, are fully accessible from the front panel, as well as through RS-232 serial and IP Link Ethernet.

24)  Kramer Creates Complete CAD Drawing Library

Kramer Electronics announced the availability of its new DXF Drawing Library of files for CAD and other industry drawing programs. These DXF (Data Exchange Format) files are available for download from the Kramer Electronics and Sierra Video web sites and include every model in both the Kramer and Sierra Video product lines. The DXF Drawing Library offers product line drawings (of the front and back panel) for use in rack elevation illustrations. It also offers CAD blocks for use in signal flow and wiring diagrams. Each drawing is provided in a standardized CAD format and depicts detailed product information including model number and description, indications of directional and bi-directional lines of communication, as well as input, output, and control connector types and wiring schemes. In addition to facilitating the creation of CAD drawings, files in the DXF Drawing Library can be used to support sales and technical support professionals by providing a visual representation of a product such as the number and type of signal channels available and/or the necessary cabling requirements. This makes it very easy for users to incorporate Kramer and Sierra products into the systems they design and sell. Kramer is also making the DXF Drawing Library available to manufacturers of drawing programs for dealers and system integrators that might be using one of these off-the-shelf A/V CAD programs. Kramer Electronics’ DXF Drawing Library can be found by using a drop down list on the main Downloads tab at www.kramerelectronics.com/downloads.asp and also on the individual Kramer product pages via the Downloads button. For Sierra products they can be found on the Sierra web site at www.sierravideo.com.

25)  New lighting control panels from iLight fit European back boxes

iLight introduced a new range of lighting control panels at the Integrated Systems Europe 2007. The rear of the panels is shaped to fit the German style round back boxes commonly fitted in continental Europe. “These panels mean that installers in Europe can save time and effort since they won’t have to replace existing back boxes,” said Peter van der Kolk, iLight’s European business development manager. “They also overcome the problem of sourcing UK back boxes on the continent.” The European panels also have another innovation. The LEDs incorporated in the panels can be dimmed if required, which can be an advantage when used in a dark environment such as a bedroom. The panels’ functions are the same as for iLight’s other panel ranges. They include up to 20 configurable internally illuminated push buttons on a double gang panel and 10 on a single gang unit. They are fully configurable, including room joining, sequencing and programmable logic functions. The European panels are available in 15 different finishes, with colour coordinated push button caps and integral blue LED indicators. iLight has also introduced an architrave control panel at Integrated Systems Europe. This thin and stylish panel, with its own back box, is designed to be mounted in narrow spaces such as in a door frame. Available with up to seven buttons, it also features dimmable LEDs, and comes in a choice of attractive finishes.
