In past reports we introduced Toshiba’s
TFT-projectors. This time it is all about extremely high-performance
LCD-projectors. They are all lightweights from the mobile and the home cinema
class. Both XGA-models T70 and T60 are suitable for business applications,
the SVGA-device S40 is used in the home cinema and professional category.
Thanks to its little weight of only 2,2 kilo these LCD-projectors are easy to
transport from one meeting to the other. All models offer a high brightness
of 2000 ANSI-lumen (T70), 1500 ANSI-lumen (T60) and 1600 ANSI-lumen (S40).
Even in daylight atmosphere the image quality is stunning, also at little
projection distance. The ECO-mode function allows for a longer lamp life span
and less fan noise. All these Toshiba models are compatible with current PC-
and Mac-systems.

A
compact and high-performance device is the SANYO PLC-XC10. A projector of the
„compact“ quality class, the PLC-XC10 is closing a gap between the
ultra-portable- and the portable-/ tabletop-projectors. Its brightness is
excellent. Thanks to its microlens-technology it projects images with 3000 ANSI-lumens and XGA-resolution. Even
in bright rooms the excellent contrast ratio of 450:1 renders a deep black and a pure white. Thanks to
integrated micro camera eyes the XC10 measures distance and angle to the
screen, and thus corrects contortions automatically, and even focuses
automatically.

Designed
for use in the classroom, the VPL-ES1 and VPL-EX1 project high quality images
that will not fade with time, helping to deliver captivating lessons term
after term. Both projectors are highly reliable and easy to use. They are
compact and lightweight, integrating quickly and easily into the classroom. The
latest technologies are incorporated in the VPL-ES1, enabling the projector
to achieve a brightness of 1500ANSI lumens, crisp and clear picture
projection and utmost ease of use with weighing just 2.8 kg. The VPL-ES1 can
accept signals of up to XGA by covering a wide range of signals. It adopts a
zoom lens with a short focal length of 2.3 m at an 80-inch screen. This way
the projector can show large size images while being close to the screen. The
VPL-EX1 also achieves a brightness of 1500 ANSI lumen in a compact body. The
VPL-EX1 adopts the XGA LCD panel and features a wide signal coverage. Both
projectors can be connected to various media such as DVD-player, video,

Electronics will be presenting its (A)udio-(S)umming-(A)dapter ASA 101 as
well as the amplifier ASA 204 and ASA 304 on the Integrated Systems Europe
(ISE) in Geneva (Switzerland). These three products are specially developed
to convert two-channel stereo- audio signals into symmetrical or
unsymmetrical one-channel- mono- audio signals. The ASA 101 is a passive
converter with transformer. The ASA 204 and 304 are high performance active
products which offer four independent active amplifiers in only one body.
They change stereo-audio signals into mono-audio-signals. An amplification
function which can be adjusted via a switcher allows the ASA 204 and the ASA
304 different output amplification values. The difference between the both
models is that the ASA 204 receives asymmetrical stereo input signals whereas
the ASA 304 handles symmetrical and asymmetrical stereo input signals via
screw accesses.

Pointmaker PVI-83 multiple-sync video marker will focus audience attention in

After
two years without quantity increasing, the market for video conferences in
Germany, Austria and Switzerland is in a new period of growth. An increase of
15 percent is expected. This estimation of VITEC Distributions is based upon
current market figures of Vtron Consulting & Service, which is specialised
on the market for video conferences, and their own researches. Great parts of
this increase are based on requests of middleclass-companies, who want to
become more effective through video conferences. VITEC Distributions says
that the benefit of video conferences is the saving of time and costs for
travelling.

Federal
president Johannes Rau, minister of family Renate Schmidt and other
politicians are going to be guest speakers at the didacta. More than ever,
German politicians are using the didacta
– an educational fair – from February 9th to 13th 2004 in
Cologne as a platform for
their educational-political statements. With an offering of about 800
companies from 10 countries and about 1000 events, the biggest educational
fair of Europe is a large source of information for pedagogues, educators, service-providers and for those making
the decisions within a company, in economy and administration. There is a
trend for advanced training and consulting leading to Blended Learning. Who
wants to keep his/her contractual capability, must learn on one’s own
responsibility and must be self-organised lifelong. Blended Learning is a one
of the sustainable concepts of lifelong learning. It is a mixture of
classical media and methods of events and the possibilities of e-Learning.
Among others, the Blended Learning Network to which also belongs technology,
content and consulting companies, presents itself at the didacta.

photokina 2004 – Imaging is More
Under
this key note, 1600 suppliers from 50 countries will exhibit at the photokina – the world of imaging – from September
28th to 3rd October in Cologne. About 60 percent of
the offers will come from foreign countries with increases from the southeast
of Asia and from the accession-countries of the EU. On an area of 200,000
sqm, the spectrum of picture-technology and picture-applications will be
presented. The professional application areas will be merged in one center.
Because of this, the photokina 2004 is made just of two main “columns” –
Consumer Imaging and Professional Imaging. In there the single offer-groups
are textually structured. Visitors find the AV-communication in hall 10. With
the increasing importance of Home Cinema in the segment of projection and
presentation technology, this field moves closer to the consumer-center of
photokina. Within the program, different events are planned, e.g. a symposium
about the subject audio-visual communication and broadcast.

technology which distributes 64 channels of high-quality audio over standard
Ethernet switches & CAT5 cabling. The product range on display at ISE

system as a whole though a computer linked to the primary master unit; and
even via a LAN or WAN. Finally the SI-1 is a ceiling speaker featuring
Fostex's HP cone technology which can be combined with the ES-1A & ES-2A

DVS and Ascent Media Group: Enhancing HD-Digital-Intermediate Workflow
DVS
Digital Video, Inc. and Ascent Media Group announce a method for enhancing
the HD-digital-intermediate (DI) workflow. The newly installed uncompressed
HDStation2U units from DVS provide multiple concurrent real-time HD in- and
output for Ascent’s 17TB SGI TP-9500 SAN system. Working with the “virtual
telecine” is up to four times faster than before. With DVS and SGI
cooperation the Ascent Media Group in Burbank, California, has created a
“virtual telecine” around their SAN system. This encompasses the entire post
process including non-linear mastering – from transfer to the final product –
through real-time and concurrent execution of multiple processes. Firstly the
telecine scans the film reel and supplies digitized uncompressed HD in real
time. Then, writing directly to the SAN disk array, the “virtual telecine”
captures the HD data in real time so that quality control, color correction
and digital restoration can all access the material via the real-time HD-SDI
I/O loop provided by DVS HDStation2U units. This non-linear mastering and the
multiple concurrent access provide for massive operational time savings.
