14) ADEO: The new Plano represent top-level technology

The latest born within the Adeo group is called Plano, a frame exclusively designed for the home-cinema sector. Distinctive features are: renewed outline, new design of the profile, with a particular angle shot of the inner profile allowing a optimal light reflection. In the Home Theatre sector problems arise when the frame is illuminated by the light of the video-projector: if the area of the frame illuminated by the projected image (overscan) is not perfectly black, there is a false contrast perception. For this reason the Adeo Group has realized a frame with inner angle sides, so that light can be reflected towards the sides behind the screen, and not toward the audience or the screen itself. The visible surface of the frame and the inner side of the angles are in black velvet, a material which completely absorbs light. Not only does Plano improve the contrast perception but it represents top-level technology and beauty as well as sheer functionality, for example the brackets for wall fitting are not visible and they have been designed as is the installation system of the curtain to obtain a perfect adherence to the wall. Plano is a very interesting product having already obtained great success among experts.

At this year´s ISE, dnp Denmark presents a new version of the world's largest optical rear projection screen, which the company especially designed to meet the requirements in brightly lit TV studios. The use of Giant Screen allows to display a 4 x 3 m image without seams. Moreover, with the new version dnp has made some modifications that make the screen even more suited for this type of applications. While the classic version of the dnp Giant Wide Angel Screen has a shiny look, the new version has a matt surface to avoid reflection of light. The TV studio version of the dnp Giant Wide Angle Screen is available from 140" to 200". Also for release at ISE is the new screen technology from dnp, that reduces the built-in depth of a 65" rear projection system to as little as 30 cm. The new screen solves the problem of projecting high quality images in conference rooms and home theaters with limited installation space. The new rear projection display bases on dnp's TIR technology – a unique lens design. It makes it possible to bend the light projected from a very steep angle, and directs it forward at right angles towards the viewers. The screen is a special version of dnp's Rigid Ultra Contrast Screen that they customized for the WT600 off-axis NEC-projector. Installed with a vertical mirror, the 65" screen has a built-in depth of only 300 mm.

20) Micronas: New vector-based motion processing with FRC 9429 A

Micronas presents FRC 9429A, the latest generation of frame rate converter with vector-based motion estimation and compensation. With this technology, the chip calculates the shift in position of every object on the screen between each frame. It then uses this information to precisely interpolate the object's location in intermediate frames. The result is smooth real motion, instead of the edgy movements and blurring common to conventional DTV displays. Getting the best DTV picture begins by de-interlacing the TV signal to match the 'progressive scan' mode for flat panel displays. This is accepted practice, but truD goes beyond this to fill in the missing frames between the 24 fps of the film source material and the 60 frames per second of flat panels TVs. Accurate vector-based motion estimation makes these fill-in frames as sharp as the originals. truD further improves the image quality by enhancing image contrast and sharpness with advanced video algorithms. These include peaking, sub-pixel luminance sharpness enhancement (LSE), chrominance sharpness enhancement (CSE), and dynamic histogram-based contrast adjustment. The FRC 9429A integrates all the functions of a high-end frame rate converter for DTV, including video memory, in one monolithic IC.

23) eyevis: openWARP – the new dimension

Behind the term openWARP, there are a large number of soft- and hardware-solutions for a general application in the projection- and simulation-sector. For one-channel- as well as for multiple-channel-applications, the openWARP product range offers fully new alternatives, which allow flexible and at the same time compact solutions. To have an easy and flexible solution for the combination of pictures, at the Max-Planck-Institution of biological cybernetic in Tuebingen the basis for an almost for all purposes applicable hardware was created. Together with the transtec AG in Tuebingen, on this basis a product was designed, which is ready for the market and which has with the company eyevis from Reutlingen found a competent partner for commercialization. With openWARP basic a very flexible solution is available, to correct geometrically video- or computer-signals for the projection onto any kind and shape of screens. The device comes with a procedure, to realize almost any screen-distortion because of the usage of fifth element polynomials. Beside the normal distortion also color- and brightness-calibrations can be made. For example, a remove of border areas for overlapping in multiple-channel-projections can be realized as easy as a ‘Hot-Spot’-correction for reprojection. openWARP basic comes with different inputs (video, RGB, DVI-D) as well as a DVI-I output and is prepared for resolutions up to SXGA+. Both devices come with a realtime-mode in which the input-signals can be worked up with a very little delay.
